Parsley makes a nice ornamental as do some of the other herbs. Parsley makes a nice border.

That’s no good Geoff. Thanks for the comment on the web page.
Ballamara, I started out with the software that came with the station but it was Windows only and I didn’t want to have a laptop running 24/7 just to update the web page. I then discovered the Raspberry Pi which is a tiny computer running on Linux. I run it headless (no monitor or…[Read more]

Geoff, I have my console connected to a Raspberry Pi via USB and then use weewx software to store the data into a sqlite3 database and publish it to the web. As long as your console has a USB port you can easily do it.Weewx is highly customisable if you are comfortable reading and tweaking code. The web pages are simple HTML and CSS with weewx…[Read more]

Thanks Ballamara. I’m not sure how much difference it will make yet but I’m hopeful. At the moment the sun is low in the sky so the bottom couple of skirts on the sensor unit still gets sun on them. In the summer they should be totally shaded as the sun will be more overhead.
One other issue I had was connecting the rain gauge back up. On my…[Read more] -

Gadgets are good Kasalia! πMy project today was to try to shade the thermometer in my weather station. When the sun is out, it reads much higher than the nearby official weather stations so have a read of my blog to see what I did to try to fix it.http://stevoz.com/myweatherblog/2015/05/shading-my-temperature-sensor/

Ballamara, it’s a little electronics board that you can plug sensors into and then do something with the results. When I was playing the other night I had a temperature and humidity sensor and used it to switch on and off indicator lights based on the temperature. I have a more practical use where I’m going to measure the height of the water in my…[Read more]

I still pop in a couple of times a day. I managed to get the majority of my lawn mowed this afternoon. Should be the last time for a while now the weather has cooled down.

I have a new toy! The Arduino microcontroller. I have so many ideas on how I can use it but before I do that I have to learn how to use it. And that means playing with it.I intend to build a monitoring system for my water tank with it so it will be practical (and lots of fun).Check out my blog for a post on tonight’s play:…[Read more]
