I am training to be a teacher, and on prac recently I read a collection of Year 12 Legal Studies papers…..welll. I was horrified! I sincerley worry for the future literacy and numeracy of our country, and our world.

As much as I would like to buy Australian products and / or organic food….most of the time it is not practical due to very limited finances.
OH and I are on disability / carer pensions due to ill health, so money is tight.

THANK YOU to all those offering personal experiences and suggestions for these dreadful conditions!
I will look in to all of them….I have found lots of good info about the conditions and spoken to others who have suffered.
Like all conditions, it seems that everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another.…[Read more]
Thanks for the info Steve…have just looked at their website – great stuff!
Thanks Bobbee, best of luck with your crops.
I recently read that Turmeric has the highest antioxidant level known in foods. Apparently it should be combined with black pepper and goog oil to release the antioxidant chemicals. This would make sense in the context of curries and spicy dishes anyway.
Where do you buy the plants/seeds/rhizomes? I’m in QLD….I assume it would grow up…[Read more]
It;s great your daughter is so enthusiastic for gardening! Well done!
We had awesome Eggplants last Summer, but the ones I have planted recently aren’t doing that well.
Do your plants have any visible signs of bugs or disease? Our bumper crop last year were infected by hairy mealy bugs…on mass! Literally sucked the life out of…[Read more]

Thinking of all in WA during this time…the images on The News are very disturbing. Hope all ALS’ers are safe and well.
Thought I would update those of you who sent such warm messages of support…thank you.
Well, after 11 days of hospitalisation, OH is home. After starting to pick up after surgery, he went down hill fast, developing a wound infection from the operation site. It was very icky, burst, and they had to remove 4 staples from the wound to drain it.…[Read more]
Also forgot to add that if your tank water is your drinking water….then it is fine for homebrewing. In fact, many say it gives a far purer cleaner taste and product.B)
I have had a white scum on my brew a couple of times. According to the info/directions, it can be caused by the brew being in the keg a liitle longer before bottling, or a slower fermenbtation process.
Apparently it is completely harmless. I have drunk it, and it was fine!
Hello all, thanks for your best wishes.
OH still in hospital….docs can’t seem to decide what to do with him. Went to see him Sunday and he had regressed….really crook and out of it.
He got cranky last night and asked Doc if he could have some yoghurt, as he has only been on ice chips. Told his bowel is not working due to trauma of…[Read more]
G’day Wisey, welcome to the ALS family.
Sounds like you have some hard work (and lots of satisfaction) ahead of you on the farm. Best of luck!
A similar article (maybe the same one?) in the Gympie Times also has IGA telling customers to come in early that morning if they wanted short supplies of bakery bread!
Unfortunately, this was the first day I could get in to Gympie to pick up medicine and a couple of things….the place was nuts! By 11am there was bugger all ‘bakery’ bread, no…[Read more]
Firstly, thank you all for your warm wishes and for listening!
Had some positive news today…..no growths or nasties found. In fact, the surgeons did not need to open up the intestine (great news), but did remove some excess scar tissue from an old appendix scar that was causing issues.
So far, only allowed ice, and will be gradually built up…[Read more]

Hi Mileymoon, hope you are OK in this rough weather.
We have a small stckpile of pantry and freezer food, medication, and also ‘go bags’ for ourselves and two dogs. We live near Gympie, so this week have come to appreciate the value of having a small stockpile!
The past 2 weeks has confirmed my belief in the necessity of such…[Read more]
What amazing photo’s! That’s funny Bushy…..a Python ‘converted’ to the ALS way…!
We have hundreds of frogs here at the moment….loads of little natives and of course Greenies. The sound the other night was defening…and many of them were playing ‘leapfrog’! Hence, many, many tadpoles!
Couln’t agree more Mudhen! I don’t think that many of today’s products and accessories will be around in 40 years time….broken, won’t work or disintegrated. Technology moves so fast that what we buy now will be downright antiquated in 40 years time!
