Join a CSA, 2l herdshare full cream, 2l Barmabah Ridge in QLD. Local dairy farmers get paid, all organic, stop shopping at Worthless and C?

Apologies to those that don’t have this choice, many of you do have choice though, you just need to ask 🙂

replied to the topic Electricity bills 'to soar regardless of carbon tax' in the forum General chat and catching up 10 years, 3 months ago

    A tiered prcing system might be a good start, ie 0-6 kw/hr day x $, 6-10 kw hr day y $, etc.

However, it might penalise larger families, who perhaps are trying to use less.

What might be better is an absolute cut of tier, say 15-20 kw hrs a day. If you use more than this, you are perhaps over using and not being careful.

    There will come a…[Read more]

Errr, do a google on coal fields in qld. You’ll see, they haven’t even touched 5% of the available coal yet!

Not sure about the rest of the world.

I got a 2kw system originally with a 3 kw inverter, went with one of the big mobs and it was slow and painful. I happened to join a whirlpool forum and one of teh gurus there ins Brisbane based and an installer, John from Positronic, his own company. I rang him on monday last week and Thursday he had fitted another 1 kw of panels, rewired the…[Read more]

Tomatoberry. As hybrids go, these do fruit well, I’m ashamed to say I have my second one fruiting now and there are several strings of 6-10 tomatoes, cherry sized of course. On the legal front, I have a couple of Tigerellas fruiting also (a tomato from a James Bond film?)

replied to the topic Low electricity bill? in the forum Living within your means 10 years, 5 months ago

I’m annoyed at the fees too Michelle. I guess that’s the infrastructure. However, I can’t believe we still have power poles when lines should be underground as they are in other first world countries.

We just added an extra 1 kw of panels to our system today, now up to 3 kw, with a heat pump (siddons) for the hw.

We are carbon neutral now and…[Read more]

replied to the topic Best greywater system? in the forum Water Conservation 10 years, 6 months ago

fta, now there’s a thought. I haven’t installed our Gator Pro grey water system yet, doing a house raise etc soon. Currently have 22.5,000 L plumbed into laundry and toilet. Increasing to 31.5,000L soon. Several options as we want to keep the 31.5 for drinking water (sediment and carbon filters) do we :

    1. Opt for a biolytix sewerage system and…[Read more]

Here’s a tried and trusted recipe for either a Breville or Kambrook BM.
    (750g loaf)

In this order add to the pan :

    335 ml luke warm water
    3/4 tablespoon Laucke yeast
2 teaspoons of raw sugar to get the yeast going
3 level cups Laucke muligrain mix (wholemeal with grains)
Make on the longest cycle you can, preferably the wholemeal cycle, that way…[Read more]

replied to the topic Pensioners selling solar power in the forum Sustainable Energy & Energy Conservation 10 years, 9 months ago

One for the accountants. If it is deemed income, then the cost of installing therefore should be exactly that, a cost. Our 2 kw with 3 kw inverter goes live tomorrow, hopefully, as it has taken nearly a year.

If this is true, then the government should be ashamed of themselves.

I’d happily pay tax on any excess, provided I can charge against my…[Read more]

replied to the topic mulberry not fruiting in the forum Fruit, Vines, Nuts and Sprouts 10 years, 9 months ago

Just planted two ‘dwarf’ black mulberry trees, they are grafted onto some other rootstock and apparently only grow to 2.5 metres tall max. Thanks for the advice on pruning. However, there are mulberry trees here in Brisbane in public places (bikepaths) and they fruit and are obviously never pruned. They seem to be very thirsty is my observation so far!

replied to the topic hot water ? in the forum Sustainable Energy & Energy Conservation 10 years, 11 months ago

They do come in different sizes, however the good ones will have an insulated tank, heat teh water and it will drop just 2 deg C a day, therefore anything you don’t use will just get ‘topped up.’ Cost will vary but there are incentives and rebates available. Now, i have no affiliation, I just have one!
