HI SD, thats a fantastic result – but then again you put in a lot of hard effort and pampering on those 4…. more so than most others I think.
I hope they buck the Hybrid Layer trend and live very long and productive lives.
It’s a damn site better than where they came from.
Cheers

under normal(scratch feed) conditions sunflower seeds will make your chooks lay better and have nice shiny feathers – however if they have a sunflower only diet they will get very fat and you will risk prolapse and heat stroke (summer) in chooks – never heard of chook feathers falling out – but then again it would be a very expensive experiment…[Read more]

I know this sounds silly but i have found the best way of preserving meat is the chest freezer B) the new models don’t cost heaps these days and use very little elec compared to the old types.
even if the power goes out – keep the lid down and you are still good for 24hrs.
lamb, rabbit and beef make great Jerky.Cheers

milk crates – a couple of G&T’s and some Tom Jones – on dusk, how could you go wrong.
The AI guys seem to be used to dealing with the strange requests of hobby farmers –
and they eyeball the cow before they get the gloves out of the ute- if the cow’s not well behaved they get in the truck and don’t come back.:)Cheers

although Saanens are large – in England they seem to be the prefered breed for small lot production- I have by far found them to be the most laid back in terms or temprement- noise and easy to confine. thry produce a large volume of milk however it is lower in fat –
a friend who lives in Bannockburn has kept a Toggy and a BA on a 2 acre block in…[Read more]

I take it she isn’t halter broken – pity most of the time a halter cow will just stand even back up for the AI  no need for a crush.
A regular dexter should be able to reach – Bulls have very long penises for just this reason – seen a 12 month old angus bull mounting cows the other day – looked funny and he was just about falling…[Read more]

not sure who spun you the furphy on different coloured goats not being able to eat the same things  – after all once you take the skin off they are all the same underneath – the only difference that i have noticed between the goats and I keep Saanens, Toggies, Anglos, Boar and have even had the odd BA (don’t particularly like the BA but…[Read more]

AI dexters can reach no probs;) and you don’t have to transport the cow either.
Lowlines are another breed commonly used over first calvers –
but you want to look at the size and birth weights of the breed being used not nessacirly the end product. If you get your cow AI then you can choose your bull and breed. ( even go pure breed) it’s…[Read more]

Hi All, if you want alpacas to protect the lambs from fox’s then you want the alpacas that will make a fuss about the dogs 👿 – not ones that will casually accept them. However if you want pets and fleece produces go for the ones that don’t blink and eye – but don’t expect to much in the way of livestock guards:whistle: .
Alpaca’s will get…[Read more]
