    Ive found when you introduce new chooks to the hen house, it upsets the hens that were previously laying and the newies. I give my hens lots of food during the colder months -lots of everything, hot mash of oats , plenty of vegetables, and add more straw or sawdust in their sleeping pen to keep them warm overnight.

    One of my hens is an Araucana, and she lays an egg every second day without exception, she has been doing that for quite awhile no matter what the weather conditions ! And like you Humbug I adore her blue egg sitting among the other eggs which are shades of brown, she also is a lovely little hen:D

    I got home from work yesterday, it had been 19 degs in Melbourne !
    There in my chook house the 8 girls had laid an egg each…8 eggs:D
    I have been getting 5-6 eggs every day for quite a while now..but was very happy to see 8 eggs, very happy to share them with my family and I can bake as much as I like

    My chooks lay in the same corner of their house, I haven’t got a box in there at all , which is in the back corner of the pen. I have placed a golf ball in that corner and once they get the hang of it..they all lay in the same place everyday !

    I have 8 chickens different ages but all youngish, less than 2 yrs. I have been getting 5-6 eggs everyday.. for the past 6-7 wks…lucky me!during the warmer weather each would lay each day.     Guess what!… arrived home from work yesterday and amongst all my eggs there was a BLUE/GREEN EGG..she had laid one !!! after 6 wks…she is a Araucana, she had been bullied by a little pekin bantam, which has been fostered out, maybe that was the problem ??
    I’m very pleased thought something serious was wrong!!:D:D

    I use ” soapnuts” they are natural berries in fact from a tree, they contain saponin which produces suds.
    They are environmentally friendly, biodegradable and compostable and then I use the water from the washing machine on the garden.

    Thanks Steve yeah I know re: pecking order but it has been 3 wks now, thought those “girls’ would have sorted it out by now… oh well will just continue to be patient!
