Hi Rinelle, just had a look at the Green Harvest website. They say the vege net is UV stabilised and has a 5 year manufacturer warranty. I have used my vege net for 2 seasons over the mandarine tree, and it is still in excellent condition.

Hi all, I’ve used vege net from Green Harvest on our Mandarin tree to deter the cockatoos. It works well. I plan to use the same net over our other fruit trees this year. It’s a fine net that can be used to keep out fruit fly as well. From memory I have read that this net is bird and fruit bat safe (they tend not to get caught in the net)

I’ve just started to harvest carrots that I planted 4 1/2 months ago. It takes a while, but is worth the wait.
Also, thanks Mountainmum, it’s good to know that it’s different every year. I get thrown a bit when things don’t go well in the garden where I’ve had previous success. Only been doing the vege growing thing seriously for just over 2 years.

replied to the topic What did you sow / plant today? in the forum Vegetables 9 years, 6 months ago
Planted corn, beans, cucumber, zucchini seeds. Also pumpkin seedlings I grew from seed. As well 2 tomato seedlings from a local nursery that are from diggers. I watered the seeds in with epsom salts (1 tsp per watering can) supposed to help with germination. Worked well with carrot and beetroot seeds I planted recently. I use a moon planting guide…[Read more]

Yes, thank you for the hint re mower catchers. I recently picked one up on the side of the road (someone else’s rubbish) for my new chickens after reading the hint on ALS.

I’m no expert and I haven’t got a greenhouse. I planted seeds about 10 days ago in punnets and small pots and put them on trays. I have had them outside during the day and have been bringing them inside at night. The pumpkin seeds are up and the basil is just starting to come up. Nothing else as yet, but am hopeful. I live in Camden NSW area.

A few months ago I sprinkled some carrot seed on top of the soil. Watered well. Topped with newspaper (about 3 sheets thickness). Watered again. Then I put some offcuts of wire sheeting on top to hold down the newspaper. I then watered as needed to keep the newspaper damp. I took the wire and newspaper off when the seeds had germinated and had…[Read more]

Hi all, I did a vegetarian cooking course some years ago and learnt that combining foods ensures a complete protein (as others have said). I find using the following groupings makes it easy –
legumes
whole grains
seeds
nuts
dairyCombine any two of the above groups to obtain a complete protein. I learnt that these need to be combined at the same…[Read more]

Magic eraser – bathroom scum buster – works brilliantly. It is a sponge that you wet – then wipe off the soap scum – I then use a chamois to dry.
