hhhm… food for thought.
I have decided to solve the problem by fencing the beds (the ones on the ground) and mulching the rest (no matter if it gets scratched if it is all one and the same surface). Eventually as scrounging allows all the beds will be raised.
I am definitely going to try the hessian bag trick on my fruit trees

I don’t use chipped/cracked jars for bottling. I have a bit of a fear (rational or not?) of a bottle cracking and spilling hot contents all over me ~ figure that any ‘compromised’ bottle is too risky.
Not sure if I’m being overly cautious – again a case of passed on wisdom. This is what I was taught to do. Personally I would let mum be on this.
There is a lovely health food shop here that has baby products and I would love to support them. Trouble is that my eco babies didn’t have any stuff!
I breastfeed (free) – you could put together a ‘basket’ with information in it The Australian Breastfeeding Association has a good book called intro to breastfeeding that only costs $5. Calls to…[Read more]
I am a bit opinionated about huge houses! I have found that in conversation everyone seems to be able to justify why ‘they’ need a big house. We do perfectly well in our 3 bed workers cottage (family of 2a + 2k). We would like more children but I’m always suprised by how many people say that we would then ‘need’ a bigger house. Idea being that…[Read more]
Ok so they won’t store as is? Oh well no real harm done, I’ve decided to keep him (hubby).
Hadn’t occured to me to store it in food, not sure why as I do this with lots of other things.
I do a pumpkin fruit cake that will use up one. Other ideas above sound good too. Tomorrow will be the great pumpkin cook up…
Thanks Ali – a great help,
I’m intrigued by the idea of doing different colours separately – is there a limit to how many times I can heat the wool? I’m assuming as long as it is damp and in short bursts it is all ok?
How much liquid should be on the wool? Does it need to be swimming or just damp? I’m unsure how to stop the liquid leaking…[Read more]
I’ve had a look and those patterns are lovely…
I’ve settled on these:

I get the point but 10hrs for a pair of plain wristwarmers in chunky yarn? I think she needs some more practice! Not a slow knitter my ****.
My understanding is that you can’t bottle mince in a FV, pressure canners only. I know it used to be done but believe that studies have shown it unsafe.
I do my sauce with tomatoes, basil, sugar, vinegar (and a tsp of citric acid on top). These store very well. I add the mince, onions and garlic when I want to use it and just…[Read more]
We had only a light shower last night on my side of town (west of Toowoomba) but the last week has been heaven! More please.
Hi Anja Does this mean that I can’t use food colouring? I have only used that and the microwave/slow cooker. Is there a way to do food colour cold?
Would you do it in skeins then not finished product?
Diane I have dyed over other wools before – the results are mixed depending on the original colour – works a treat! Haven’t tried felting though…[Read more]
😆 Thank you Gianna for the laugh – I have had a 4 sale sign in the yard for a while, I think though they would have to be a package deal that way I could get a couple of hours peace before the fairies bought them back…
It is good to hear that this is common behaviour – I have been worrying that I am raising little monsters that will be…[Read more]
Hi Lady B,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried to get help with them without a lot of success. We went to a behaviour program in the next town but they thought that my 4yo was just fine and that my strategies are good so they asked us not to come anymore! My minister’s wife has spent some time with him (she’s experienced with children)…[Read more]
Why don’t you get in touch with the council and ask them what the regulations are. I’d imagine that every council will have different rules. For example here in Qld we are allowed 2 head (any type of stock) per 2000 square metres of dirt BUT there is an exclusion zone within 20 linear metres of your neighbours eaves which is not counted in the…[Read more]
I don’t know anything about sheep but my guess is that unless your lamb is obviously starving then there is plenty of milk. Animals don’t let down their milk if they don’t want to.
Thanks very much for your replies,
I think we have a lot to think about. The house isn’t part of a rural subdivision, it is in an area of 5 acre blocks and all the rest have been approved for subs into 1 acre blocks and just waiting on the bulldozers. 2 sides are bounded by a council reserve, our block and the reserve are saved from the…[Read more]
I’d say that you have some old/dodgy appliances or you are so used to using heaps of power that you don’t even know you are doing it…
I have one of those meters from climate smart and mine sits on zero when nothing is turned on, 7 cents an hour would have me hunting around the house to find what had been left on by mistake. Only once has…[Read more]

Hot days are really hard work. I always run out of energy before I run out of ideas. I get mine up really early in summer and let them stay up late but make them have a sleep after lunch when it is too hot to play.
