    Hi All

I am interested, but like others, depends on time/place etc. I am at Noarlunga Downs and have a car so I can give people a lift who are on my way 🙂

  • Thanks for the advise. Much appreciated. The decision has been made for us now. I looked up underground concrete tanks and it appears you need council approval for them and we can’t wait that long as we have to be out of our rental property by 26th October. I’m going to see Team Poly tomorrow to get prices on slimline poly tanks and a pump. I…[Read more]

  • I changed my diet to try and help with a number of health issues including chronic PMS and heavy painful periods and Endometriosis and it has helped enormously. I am still working out what I can and can’t tolerate so it can take some time to work out, but I feel it has been worth it.

The diet I am using is Failsafe Eating, which you can read all…[Read more]

Hi Nic and welcome to ALS

Have fun on your Simple Living journey and think of it as an adventure 🙂

Make a start on one of the things you are thinking about doing and take baby steps so you don’t get overwhelmed. Get the family involved too. My 5 year old son helped construct our no-dig vegie gardens and loves to get involved in any new…[Read more]

  • Thanks Lyn, will try the Epsom salts and Seaweed extract. I think it is a combination of not enough fertiliser and lack of water. I thought my husband was watering them regularly (I can’t hand water due to a shoulder injury) but he now says he wasn’t really watering them regularly :|:)

We now have a drip irrigation system connected to our water…[Read more]

  • Thanks for all the replies. Will try more water and also try eating one from the middle in case they taste any better 🙂

  • Elizabeth, thanks for the hugs and kisses 🙂 I am trying to be good and rest when I can and do my physio exercises so it will pay off and I’ll be all well again soon.

Yes, you are right, the weeds sure aren’t going anywhere! I am trying to like the soursobs and remind myself that they look really pretty when they are in flower and brighten up…[Read more]

  • Hi Creeker

Yes, it was/is quite painful, but getting a bit better every day. I still can’t lift or carry anything with my right hand but I’m getting more movement with the physio exercises.

My husband was home for the first 6 weeks and was a great help. Now he’s back at work so I’m doing what I can, which isn’t much! I have a 4 year old son…[Read more]

  • Many thanks to all the replies to my query about removal of soursobs. I’ve had surgery to repair a Rotator Cuff injury so have been out of action and not been able to say thanks until now!

Once my shoulder is better I will be out there in the garden again trying some of the suggestions.

This is a wonderful website and I appreciate all of the…[Read more]

  • Thanks John, it was amusing to read your many replies 😀 kept waiting for the photo…. and waiting…. 😀
Had a look in your album, the fence looks good, I can’t do any of the building as I have a shoulder injury so I’ll get my husband to look at it and see what he thinks.

Mmmmm after reading your reply Tam, I’m not so sure an open top is the…[Read more]

  • Thanks for all the replies. Ideally, I’d like to keep the top open, so I like the idea of leaving the top bit folded in. Will try and find the discussion thread mentioned for any more tips.

  • Thanks for the tip. 🙂 That might be good timing as we’ll hopefully have our shed and two runs built by then (Feb/Mar). I have just registered on Backyard Poultry so I’ll start having a look at the noticeboard.

  • If you don’t mind me asking, where are you getting your Barnevelders from? I am trying to source pure breds close to where we live (Noarlunga Downs) and it’s proving difficult. I want to get a docile breed as I have a 4 year old boy who wants to be able to pick them up and cuddle them. I narrowed it down to about 6 breeds that might be ok and…[Read more]

  • I joined Flylady about a year ago but injured my right shoulder soon after so I’ve been struggling ever since to get all of the routines, zone cleaning etc. done. But I’m with Becca on the 15 mins thing, I often use my timer to get stuff done, it’s great knowing that you have permission to stop when the timer goes off. The system does work and…[Read more]

  • By the way Geoff, won’t be going for the raised floor pole type chook house, sounds like too much of a challenge to me 🙂

  • Thanks everyone for all the info, it’s great to have some experienced chook people out there to help me along 🙂

Hi Scarecrow, my local council had a printed brochure on keeping chooks so I’ve checked everything out. The chook house has to be 1 and a half metres from other structures and one metre away from neighbours fences, but otherwise…[Read more]

  • Hi Jaymie
We looked at the pre-made aviary type sheds too and they all had a wire mesh open type thing at the front and it worried me that it might get too draughty in there for the chookies in the winter. I guess it doesn’t get as cold where you live as it does here in SA. Do you find that they seem warm enough in the winter?

    I have another…[Read more]

  • Thanks Mumchook & Ali

Not a ramble Mumchook, just heaps of really useful information 🙂

I would really prefer timber as it will look a lot nicer. Will go and visit our local salvage yard tomorrow and see what they have got. When I said steel I was thinking all steel, like a garden shed, but you’ve convinced me to go with timber, or maybe…[Read more]

  • Hello and welcome Monika.

Yes, where has the sun gone?! But can’t complain, isn’t it great to have so much rain?

This is a wonderful site and full of useful information and lots of friendly people too, hope you enjoy it 🙂

  • Hi Gerri

I haven’t been diagnosed with IBS but have all the symptoms. I haven’t tried any remedies but the thing that has helped me most was going on the Simplified Elimination Diet where you take certain food groups out and then add them back in one at a time to see what you are intolerant to. Then you can re-introduce those foods starting out…[Read more]
