I’ve been using bi-carb for a long time too. Sometimes I add one drop of lavender and one of tea tree essentail oils to about half a cup of bi-carb, sometimes it’s just straight bicarb. DH gets a rash from bi-carb so he has an old deodorant roller bottle that he fills with witch hazel and two drop of tea tree oil.
Lately however I’ve not been…[Read more]

Our latest bill showed a daily average of 6.85kWh which cost $1.94 per day. DH is out of the house for 12 hours five days a week. We’ve been averaging between 6 & 7 kWh for a while and as soon as our inefficient chest freezer is empty I’m giving it the flick.
Stove top,hot water and heating are gas but of course there is a fan for the hugely…[Read more]

Sharon Astyk is one of my favourite writers too suz.
I’m just so sick of people telling me I’m being pessimistic or negative when they see me doing just simple basic things that most ALSers do without thinking. Things like making sure all appliances are turned of at the wall for instance is a radical and extreme thing to do according to…[Read more]

There seems to be a 24 hour vomiting bug going on down here too. I got it and so did my not quite two year old grand daughter. I had aches and pains all over my body and couldn’t keep down even a few sips of water and she looked as miserable as I felt.
As everyone has already said, it is safest to take a little one to be checked by a doctor due…[Read more]

Lots of good ideas and memories here. Chezza your stories made me feel all warm inside . It’s a long time since I’ve had a little one cuddle up to me on a cold night.

Ree, I’ll vouch for pelmets. We have them on a couple of large glassed areas along with generously…[Read more]

Well it stopped us Warwick. We were just about to order ours but will have to wait until DH retires now. Too many other commitments, not loans, other than the mortgage but commitments never the less.

Thanks creeker. So far I haven’t needed anything for worms but I’m making a note of your advice just in case.
I’ve noticed that the most timid of my little bantams seem to stay out of the way when I put food down in dishes. I usually just use two terracotta dishes but I’m going to add a couple more. Thanks Ree.
Thanks Maizie for starting this…[Read more]

We have one Light Sussex Maizie and she is a lovely placid chook who I hope is just about ready to start laying. She has the sweetest nature of all my chooks.
Creeker I’ve recently noticed some of my young chooks eating the tender new leaves of a tansy plant that I cut to the ground. I’m going to give your garlic mix a go because some of my…[Read more]

I’m a convert too. I stopped using shampoo some time back but now I’ve ditched the bicarb too. Just water about twice a week for the past seven weeks with a very weak cider vinegar rinse.
I can’t bear to think of how much money I’ve spent on shampoo and conditioner over the past 40 years!!!!

The federal budget has put an end to our solar plans too. :noapprove:
When asked last week why the Victorian budget didn’t include better rebates for solar, the premier said that if too many people went solar the cost of electricity on the grid would become too expensive. Can you believe it??

I love pepitas roasted quickly in the oven, They make a lovely snack and I often sprinkle them over the top of a loaf of bread before I bake it but how do you get the shell off a pumpkin seed or are you meant to eat that as well?

Suz, this is the best tutorial for yoghurt making I’ve read. Thank you.

A friend and I used to have a little craft shop in the seventies and the biggest sellers were macrame materials. We sold masses of jute and ghastly acrylic yarn that was made into “millions”of plant hangers mostly. We used to hold classes and they filled as soon as we advertised them. I can’t remember how to do any of it now.…[Read more]
