Here are some photos of the chickies! They’ve grown a bit bigger now though and are doing well, all though both the black ones seem do be doing something that looks like ‘sparring’ although I’m not sure if they’re just establishing a pecking order or if they’re both going to become boys. I certainly hope its the former!

Yes, I’ll have to also post pictures when the ‘seagull’ one grows up! I live in Cairns and got all of the chickies from a guy in brinsmead (about 20 mins away). he has heaps of different types. There were even baby Guinea Fowl chicks, but I chose against that as I heard they were noisier even than chickens.

Yep! The whey is great for pancakes, even if you used vinegar to make the ricotta, check out the ‘fluffy buttermilk pancakes’ recipe on http://www.taste.com.au and swap the 1&1/4 cups of buttermilk for 1 cup of whey and 1/4 cups of milk! really fluffy and nice! you could even have the ricotta with the pancakes 🙂

Op shop swap sounds great! I wish I’d read about this a few days earlier as it’s probably a bit too late now =) You guys all seem to have such great taste in home-wares! I never thought anyone else collected odd tea cups, fire king and doilies!

We use one of those trolleys that you say people trip over. If you make sure to keep them out of the direct pathway, surely people will manage to walk around them =) They’re great because there’s no weight on your arms and they’re easy to move about with. You can also do a much bigger shopping than you would usually be able to do at a fruit and…[Read more]

I guess the ants must have a symbiotic relationship with the aphids (I think thats the term) (where the aphids produce a sweet sap stuff for the ants to eat and in turn the ants protect them) but I’ve just put in some snake bean seedlings so yeah, I’d prefer to have no either of these creatures as well if anyone has any solutions 🙂

Talking about native berries… In kuranda and the Atherton tablelands there are huge amounts of these ‘rasberry’ vines, growing the berries are like rasberries but not as simple and sweet, they have alot of ‘hair’ on them and the leaves are really light green. The vines also grow and look like rasberry vines. Are they native? They still taste…[Read more]

oh yeah! I know what that is, thats a good idea :). I was also wondering like, if you take a cutting from an older plant, would it only live as long as the older plant or would it be like a new plant altogether?

Interesting discussion. We have just planted 2 dwarf apples, a peach and a nectarine. The reason we went dwarf was because the possums murder the full size ones in the orchard so we have put the new ones in our wire berry enclosure. They are just coming into blossom.Heya, why don’t you put those metal rings around the…[Read more]

Its hard :/… because if laws were to be put in place to ban all hunting, then what would become of the aboriginals who live in really remote areas and cannot regularly access other food sources? If the seafood is their main source of food then no one should take this away from them…(I’m sure it would be hard for them to suddenly switch to…[Read more]

It’s strange the way thing work isn’t it SproutingSeed? I think it really needs to be understood that people will be people and that some will be respectful of their rights, and others will abuse whichever powers they are given. I think it would be difficult to determine a way to monitor this, as it’s not as though you can say: “okay, you can hunt…[Read more]
