Hi Metu,
You’ve done nothing ‘bad’ at all. Doubt I would be going either. I think you’re doing the right thing standing by your principles. We can’t let ourselves get pulled about by other peoples expectations of what we should be and how we should behave. I think you’ve given good reasons for your decision and others should understand and respect…[Read more] -

Hi Folks,
Just to add my experience with these meters I would have to agree with the last comment about their accuracy. Besides the kill-a-watt I have had the benefit of having an old SEC power meter (the type that sits in your meter box) to play with and compare to. Did some comparative tests several weeks back.
For very small (stand-by) loads…[Read more] -

Hi Julie,
Almost certain to be your touchpad. Had that happen to me several times too. On some designs the touchpad is too close to the edge and a little too sensitive.
If you can get hold of an external keyboard and use that for a while you will soon see if it is that or not. -

Two strings would give me 500Ah at 24V DC. If I understand the math right, then this should do us if we’re using around 10kWh per day.
Hi Geoff,
You wouldn’t want to discharge your batteries to that extent though. Although it varies according to battery brand and type, the service life of batteries is propotional to the % depth of discharge. ie…[Read more] -

We’ve spent a few days on our old photos recently. Over the years we have done bits and pieces on our family histories and accumulated collections of old black and white photos from various family members. The result was photos and negatives in all sorts of shapes and sizes, some in old falling apart albums, boxes, envelopes and photo frames.…[Read more]

daviesgang, I sincerely wish you (and everyone else wanting to give up) all the best in your efforts. I’m not a smoker myself but I can in a way relate to your son who has the asthma. I also had chronic asthma as a child and my father was a smoker of at least a packet a day. In those days (I’m 51 now) smoking was still not ‘officially’ connected…[Read more]

replied to the topic LPG Conversion, is it worth the trouble? in the forum Peak Oil – where are we headed? 14 years, 1 month ago
We had our then 3 year old ford converted just over 18 months ago. In those days you didn’t have to wait for more than a couple of weeks and the all up cost for the conversion was $2300. I have kept records of all fuel (and prices) put into this car and consumption compared to ULP is on average 25% higher. Based on our average of around 20,000 km…[Read more]

Gianna,
I know exactly how you must feel. In our case its rosellas and king parrots who are the culprits.
We have 4 apple trees that are also too large to net and a crab apple that is huge. Between them they carry many hundreds of ‘potential’ apples. These little charmers come along every day and don’t stop until eventually all our trees are…[Read more] -
