I’ve seen it at the supermarket but I would usually buy mine from a catering supply place (which is also a good place to get coconut oil as well).

I’ve also soaped with woolies brand “pure olive oil” and that turned out just fine too. Pretty much any olive oil will do but you choose your oils for what qualities they will give your soap. Pomace…[Read more]

If you don’t want to line your moulds go for silicone instead.

Kmart has some cheap stuff at just $5 a mould, they’ve got novelty stuff like hearts and bugs and trains or just go a loaf mould.

Or you can also chop up shopping bags to use as well, I’ve done this a few times and it’s worked well although I would always get crinkles lines in my…[Read more]

  • As someone who has made cold process soap from scratch for the last few years I can’t help but wonder why people rebatch soap and call it soap making, honestly why do all that effort and not just buy the lux soap in cake form and not flaked????

Get some books of natural soap making and give it a go from scratch, its fun and can be so rewarding.…[Read more]

  • If you get really enthusiastic you could try making a liquid soap from scratch with potassium hydroxide and oils. I’ve been meaning to try make one for ages but it’s still sitting on the to do list lol.

Also whoever said about putting lavender in the vinegar, I’m so going to try that, it sounds lovely!!!!!!!

  • Actually I think there is a lot of confusion about the cancer link. People traditionally ate animal foods and still didn’t have the rate of degenerative disease that they see today. One of the speculated differences is the quantity they ate and also factory farming and the use of dips, spray & antibiotics etc also about grain fed meat. As soon as…[Read more]

  • One of the main topics in the book is how running shoes are causing massive problems and pretty much weaken your foot and make you walk and run all wrong by making your heel strike the ground (which isn’t natural). But of course I wouldn’t profess to be any sort of knowledgeable person on this subject and am merely just regurgitating what I read.…[Read more]

  • I agree with what has been said. Actually if you look at most traditional medicine from around the world diet is only one part of it (a hugely important part of it though!) But definitely, approaching health as though it is just diet isn’t going to have any miracles for you. You need to look at the whole person, even their relationships to their…[Read more]

  • Does that translate to…it’s too hard to explain…. lol

But wise words and I think your right, I was planning on saving seeds but I guess that’s not really important to focus on now. I should just relax and not try understand it all at once and just focus on getting some green to come up from the dirt 😀

  • It sort of helps lol…so I get it that you don’t want the brother and sister plants pollinating, but now I feel confused about the naming system…and this is even after spending the last hour trying to read about it on the net!

  • There’s no tape, it’s just the seam on the outside and folded over again. The seams feel strong enough on the others where I just did a french seam but I super like how these ones look and how it comes out like a border and now that you mention it I’m sure it makes it that bit stronger too

  • I got some stuff from Spotlight for them. I got a few different materials to try, the nylon net felt really stiff and I didn’t think it would scrunch down well to put in my bag so I tried some of the elasticated polyester mesh from the dance section and also some polyester netting that they had to make your own mozzie nets.

These bags are my fav…[Read more]

  • I’ve got a 1.2lt ecotanka with the stainless lid (which still has plastic all round the top though). It’s good but quite heavy when it is full. I didn’t get a smaller one as I wanted this for when I’m out all day. One thing that I can’t stand on it though is the noise when I screw unscrew the lid, any metal on metal noise is like fingernails on a…[Read more]

  • I used to be a tv addict even thought I would have kicked and screamed and denied it and thought anyone who told me I was was being ridiculous, after all just about everyone does the same thing right?????. Just about every night I’d put the tv on and either just have it going in the background or be watching it and it was on from about 5.30pm for…[Read more]

It’s hot! LOL I can’t say on the rain thing as who knows anymore, the weather never seems to follow it’s proper patterns or seasons these days. This year we’ve had a late monsoon, actually I wouldn’t even say we have…[Read more]

  • Have you tried just cloth menstrual pads – I’m not sure if it’s for a male or female big person but I’ve heard you can use them for mild incontinence, I can’t say how they go for incontinence personally but I can vouch that they are awesomely absorbent for periods. They obviously all come as girly prints though being designed for women but maybe…[Read more]

  • I know this topic is a bit old now but thought I’d chime in anyway since I just joined the forum and have been a hobby soaper for a few years now.

The picture isn’t really clear but it does look a bit like its been sweating, sometimes it will reabsorb back into the soap but sometimes it evaporates to leave lye crystals.
