Hi Bobbee,From my personal experience with badly neglecting my water kefir, you have made water kefir vinegar and the floaty bit you have found is the vinegar mother. I think I started a thread on here last year about making water kefir vinegar, http://www.aussieslivingsimply.com.au/forum/discussion/comment/277605/#Comment_277605 I’ve got a…[Read more]

Hi Kate, welcome to the site. I haven’t been here much lately but will have to get back into the habit of checking in, nice to see some new faces! You have a gorgeous blog – it was fun to have a bit of a stroll through your garden. I smiled when I looked at your list of herbs, as it’s almost identical to mine, and I live just a bit north of you,…[Read more]

Welcome back! I love your blog – looks like you’ve done a heap of work on your place and have plans to do lots more. I esp like your fridge – that is an ingenious idea.

Hi Luvin! I’ve missed your great craft ideas – what have you been up to lately? Any photos to share? I’ve just started making a rag rug from some (ok, heaps!) of t shirts I’ve been saving and some new to me t shirt (knit) material I picked up at the op shop – blues, greens and purples.

One of the staff where I work made this soup for our Soup Tuesday lunch and it was yummo! I got the recipe and made it for my son’s 18th birthday party last night, along with a pot of pumpkin and sweet potato and one of chicken noodle. I cooked my own chickpeas in the pressure cooker, 250g fresh cooked equals one 400g tin. We used a bit less…[Read more]

I will have to figure out adding photos again – yours look great, Nick! I made about a half a dozen jars of blood orange marmalade a week or so ago using my favourite marmalade recipe: http://ivyphyllisandme.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/grapefruit-marmalade.html I love that it is so no fuss, and the cooking time for the actual marmalade is quite…[Read more]

Hi Deb, I guess using caution is the best way for you to go with your passata. I heat mine on the stove and then put it into hot jars and straight into a boiling water bath for 20 minutes before turning off the heat, which has worked for me every time as far as sealing the jars goes. Sometimes you can get lids that don’t seal well, though, and…[Read more]

I always love seeing your photos and what you’re up to, Bel! Your piggies look lovely! If you want some long burning wood, see if you can get ahold of some mallee stumps. We used them in a small convection heater when we lived in Waikerie and they were the best. Chopping them up is a good workout, too.

Thanks for all the info. The roots I dug up were about the size of my pinkie finger (not very big!) but it sounds like that might be as good as it gets. I have heard that it can be very invasive but mine isn’t growing terribly fast. It died back a month or so ago and is just now sending up some new shoots. Tropical Rose, I would suggest trying…[Read more]

I had to re-do my password as well, but otherwise it was easy and so good to be back! I too discovered the facebook group, which is handy to know about at times like these.

This week I have given away a box of computer parts and a water cooler we are no longer using. My son is having a birthday party at our house early next month, and I am looking around carefully at what can go. Mind you, I am still bringing things home, to my dh’s dismay!! I found the most enormous picnic basket at an op shop recently, and it…[Read more]

Hey!! Looks like we’re back up and running! I’ve been having ALS withdrawals this last week or so. Lots of rainy days here in Adelaide but have been working extra hours and doing too many other things, so my garden is still waiting for me to get the last of the weeds out so I can fertilize and plant.

I’m just thankful that someone rediscovered this thread, I bought myself a bucket of Munash rock dust the other day and am looking forward to using it. Looks like Mauzi hasn’t been here in a really long time, and I guess sometimes things change and websites become too much to keep up with.

Froot_loopz, sorry to hear about your boy – sounds like the bug one of mine brought home a couple weeks ago. He was sick one night, his brother had it 3 days later, his sister 4 days later and then I got it 3 days after her. VERY unpleasant!!! Still two family members to go, but they think they’ve dodged it – sure hope so! I hope your chooks…[Read more]

Bobbee,, not being able to drive around and pick stuff up would certainly make it hard to use. Depending on where you are (eg how populated an area) you could still use it to pass things on to others, though.
Bel, I hope you get a reply. As far as I know, it is an Adelaide region group, it helps that each post has the location in the subject…[Read more]

Oh, Rommie, that is so typical but so not helpful! My mom is in hospital at the moment with her second heart related episode after a heart attack a couple months ago. She took three nitroglycerin tablets before finally heading to the hospital because she REALLY didn’t want to miss her ladies Bible study group lunch the next day!!

If it makes you feel any better, Bobbee, I woke up with a bug this morning and slept all day! My busy-ness tends to go in spurts, I’ll have heaps of energy for a few days then slow down. And everyone has different seasons in life, too. I’m looking forward to one day being able to sit and look out on the world as it hurries past.
