Aussies Living Simply

  • We had the neighbours kids over for a play. They were all inside as it was so hot out, but their kids got really excited about all the toys our kids are bored with. End result, six happy kids playing with toys that hadn’t been touched in months.

  • We’ve got two of Humbugs Araucanas. Lovely birds. Good layers. Want more…… hint hint……
We’ve also got some Silkies and a couple of Isa’s.
We find that the eggs from the Araucanas are the best. The silky eggs are lovely, but too little for most recipes. The kids love eating them though.
The Isa Brown eggs while large and frequent are often…[Read more]

    Hi Spanner.
    Yes, t’was me.
So glad you liked it all. I just did little things that I could work on here and there.

We love the beads as well. I used to make things with them when I was a kid, so I was rapt when I found they were available still. There are two brands. SES and Hama. You put them together on little peg boards and then iron them. My…[Read more]

I always plant things closer than the pack states. Partly because I hate to waste anything and partly because I can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t. I crammed 20 tomato plants into a plot 1.1m x 2.2m last summer and they did really well. I have heard of Square Foot Gardening, but never bought the book.

Thanks everyone. It’s great to hear ideas from others.

Fruit wise we are pretty set…… I hope. We’ve got a small orchard with plums, apples, peach, nashi and cherry. Most of the trees are quite young, but we did fairly well last season with apples and plums. Hopefully that will just get better each year if we look after them. I’ve got a large…[Read more]

Well I know that mine has arrived at its destination, so that is good…… hint hint.

PS: I have really enjoyed this swap. Why can’t they all be handmade swaps…… I love seeing what other people send. Gives me plenty of ideas for the next one.

Mine is now in the hands of Australia Post. I had forgotten how far away my Swap Buddy is, so it may not be there on Monday after all, but we can hope.

And I don’t think you will need any clues, but just in case, here’s another.

    “It’s all in the bag”

I’ll be looking out next week to see if anyone guesses.

  • My parents helped us organise the Wedding as we were living in Perth at the time. One of Dad’s friends is a Celebrant so we got him at mates rates as well as the use of his lovely Jaguar and Mercedes for the trip to the Chapel. And as he was a friend of the family, he attended the reception with his wife and son who drove the cars.

    Cam and I…[Read more]

It was only when I had children of my own and they started asking to do the things that my Mum always said no to, that I realised why she always said no. And my kids respond exactly the same way I did.

Only thing is that these things are happening so much earlier. I wanted to do sleepovers when I was 13, they want to do them when they are…[Read more]

Wow, there are some lovely gifts being sent around the country.

I just have to drop Jenny off at school and then we will be posting mine. I’ve been working on it the entire time, but just in the occasional spare minutes I get. You know how it can be with three kids a hubby and all that entails!!

So Swap Buddy, it will hopefully be with you on…[Read more]

  • He carries on when I handle him regardless, so not sure if it hurts.

It certainly doesn’t seem to be bothering him. He still struts around keeping all the girls in line.

  • I don’t even know how long it’s been there. Weeks?
He’s got such fluffy feathers that it could have been there forever!!!

Was just worried that there might be some terrible contagious chjook disease that shows as a lump on their neck!!?????:)

I’m back. Totally blew my download allowance when I put in our tax returns online, so I had to lay low for a while until the mega bill arrived!!!! Thank goodness we got some tax back, otherwise it would have been a real bummer!!

I’m working on my swap. Jenny helped me with one part of it. Mine will be finished and posted over the weekend.

  • Oh Wow!! A local get together!!

We are getting back from the snow on the 14th and I am so going to make sure that I can get to this one. I can’t miss one when it’s in the same suburb as me!!

Are the kids allowed to come??

And Pam you are too hard on yourself. Your place is lovely!!

  • My hubby always say that there’s nothing wrong with his MIL, it’s mine that is the problem……..

I actually got my sewing machine out today and then used it for totally boring mending!!! Was going to start work on my next piece, but the baby woke up and changed that plan!!!

There’s always tomorrow, but in the meantime I have finished something, so even if nothing else comes about, I have something to post. But I’m still waiting until the end…[Read more]

Part one of my swap is almost done, as is part two.
I’m going to make the most of having until the end of July to get it all finished. Can take my time and enjoy this one. I’m experimenting with a twist on something that I have done before.

I got it! It was Sewing Lady!!
I don’t know how I missed your posts. Thank you so much for the lovely bag. How lucky am I to have such a wonderful place to store my swap while I work on it!!
    Thank you!!

  • We often use the washing machine at night. I wonder if you can get a switch connected to the off peak supply??
We got a shocking bill last quarter, more than $100 up. Partly because of the increase and partly because of our heater. Have fixed the heating and finally turned off the second fridge. Will see if that makes a big difference.

    What about…[Read more]
