Funny you mention beans Bobbs. I bought a few tins of butter beans today to try on the kids mashed up and mixed in LOL.
It’s going to be a bit of a slow process as we use up the meat in the freezer I had piled up but I’m finding new recipes to use and just have to be brave enough to face the onslaught when they are dished up without meat. DH…[Read more]

replied to the topic Much ado about certified organics in the forum In the Garden 7 years, 11 months ago
Hi Andre, I prefer to buy certified organic over non organic veg if I have to get it from the shops. I grow veg without pesticides in my own garden and try to keep it that way with what I buy, as long as we can afford to. And, for some reason organic bananas taste better than non organic 😉 .
As for organic costing more, I get it that the…[Read more]

Welllll to throw my 2 cents in for what it’s worth.
We are slowly changing over to a prodominantly vegetarian diet with fish. Does that make me an omniveg? I’m not doing it for ethical reasons though but for health reasons. I can’t control whether the fish is farmed ethically or not short of getting a line and rod and going out and catching…[Read more]

Thanks casalenta. I had thought of using brown lentils to replace beef in shepards pie and spag bol but hadn’t considered kidney beans. Might have to try that one.

I read in a UK paper today that there is going to be an olive oil shortage. Production is down as much as 60% overseas due to drought in countries like Spain. I wonder how much this will affect the Aussie olive oil market and drive up the prices here…Could be time to buy a few big tins of the stuff.

Robyne you’re an amazing Grandma and your kids and grandkids are so very lucky to have you  . I hope in time she gets the help she needs and that their family, if all is not too broken, can be mended.

Hi hatter  . Welcome to ALS and I think I’ll keep an eye on this thread. I’d be interested in a homemade dishwashing liquid as well.

Can I add something which may make people think twice about the price of tuna. For the sake of comparisons I’ll use Coles online who have their 185g tins of tuna listed at $9.19/kg. Their cheapest sausages are $4.12/kg. A 1kg packet of red split lentils is $5.50 which makes lentils dearer than sausages per kg. All sources from coles online just…[Read more]

Good to see you back online Bullseye and that the important things were saved. Hope it doesn’t take too long for you to get up and going again replacing what was lost.

  Robyn. One of my S-I-L has schizophrenia and is much better since she has been medicated, still has her problems she has to face but things are better. Your poor son is going to need a lot of support as is his wife, it will be a hard road ahead for them.
I do agree with gumnut. It would be interesting to see if she has postnatal…[Read more]

We’re just starting to get the heavy rain now. We’ve had nearly 87ml of rain so far which isn’t too bad a drop for the light rain we’ve had falling constantly for the last couple of days.
Tonight will be the interesting one though, particularly tomorrow morning which is when it’s meant to get worse. Sydney is already having flash flooding…[Read more]

Ummmmm Bullseye…..thanks for the pipeline….I think…..
According to BOM, this rather uncharming excyclone is going to exit land over us. I don’t mind the rain but this is taking the pipeline theory a bit too far LOL.
 To all those inundated up north. Stay safe in the floods.

Narelleh I have to compress my pictures for web pages using Microsoft Office before I put them up.
I use firefox as well, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Yes, it makes for very interesting reading Bullseye  . If that system splits into 2 and the one being over Sydney is an ECL it will make for very interesting times over the next week down here.
We’re around the 300ml mark for rain. That would be plenty to fill the dam. 1250ml? I’ll be floating out to sea :jawdrop: That’s our annual…[Read more]

I was just reading the chat on the weatherzone forum and apparently BOM have ex-oswald at a moderate chance of redeveloping tomorrow.

 Narelleh. I can’t imagine how scared I’d be on my own with the kids in a cyclone. We get East Coast Lows which can be similar conditions and they’re bad enough.
I’m sure you’ll be fine and you’ve stocked up and are ready. Batten down the hatches and hang on 😉
