  • Holstein jerseys are good milkers. It is funny they sold her they normally keep them it increases the fat content of the milk a bit. Not as much as jerseys though.
You should keep her as a milker! she will be very used to you all so it shouldn’t be hard to get her quiet enough. 😆

  • they are gorgeous! So hard not to get attached especially because they will become very very familiar with you. That mooing is just the start. Wait for the demand for scratches and pats. The ever so disgusting licks and slobbers.
the heifer is a lovely little thing. Was there a reason they got rid of her?

  • Heya I’ve helped raise a few…hundred of holstein, friesian and various crosses and more recently jerseys. All are from the dairy industry. One thing to check for is have they had their cholostrum. Depending on how old they are you might want to get the cholostrum replacer or give them an egg yolk in their milk once or twice. I raised them from a…[Read more]

I’ve had a bit to do with beef and I will cross them with a beef type bull later, probably third calf as second time heifers often have a harder time calving.
I never thought of eating jersey until one of my dairy friends assured me they are the best beef she has ever had. I’ve chatted to the AI fella he is going to…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the picture tutorial! Sadly the little chick was dead when I went out to strap the legs. It was only three days after hatching I think there must have been something else wrong. I will definately remember this for next time! How did you learn all of this?

  • I have already Pulled some out of the dams, I think they were stocked by someone before. I need to see how many I can pull out and what sizes I’m getting. So I’m lucky that I won’t have to pay for the yabbies to start with. Unless a couple of the dams are not stocked =/ though I might just catch some from one dam and move them to the other dam. =]…[Read more]

  • Thanks so Much for your help! I’ll have to do a load more research before starting anything. I’ll have to look into the markets around this area and find a wholesaler

  • Awesome Thanks for the info. How do I go about finding the markets for them? I’ve had a quick look online but can’t seem to find any way of selling the harvested yabbies.

  • Thanks =] They spent the night in the stable. I figured they’d just travelled a long way and we hit storms on the last part of our journey and they were so good. Today I’m going to drench them and treat one for pink eye. I went out this morning and they were both laying down chewing their cud. Very stressed hahahaha.
