You don’t want to grow edibles in ground that cats habitually toilet in. Toxoplasmosis is apparently a real possibility. Better to prevent the cat from using the beds at all if possible.
Incidentally, you don’t mention your location, but if you tried the plastic bottle greenhouses here, you’d likely end up with cooked veggie  -

Sounds like the wild passion fruit.
If this link works there is a piccie low on the right hand side
If that is it, beware people. I was growing it and munching on a handful of fruit daily. They apparently gave me painful hives,…[Read more]

I use firefox and find that, if I’m missing the right side of a post, then “control/minus” will shrink the writing enough to allow the post to fit. Don’t know if this works for explorer but worth a go.

Dayla, how does the dine-a-chook discourage the birds from eating the chook food? From the site piccies it just looks like an open feeder. If it is working for you, what type of birds were you having trouble with? I am rather dubious about my Maggies not hoeing into anything that the chooks find usable. They simply stand around, head on one side…[Read more]

Fruitful, the bran is their food, they are meal worms after all. The fruit/vegetable peels are their moisture source. I would expect your five worms to pupate sharpish when they can’t find any food.
Do let us know though, your meal worms may be more resourceful than my mealworms :cheer: -

Can those of you who have already shelled out the money for thermomix give me some info please.
I find that a fair few of the kitchen gadgets I own tend to be under-used as they are a nuisance to clean. Either they have lots of bits, often sharp, or they have awkward crevices, or they don’t fit in the sink, or you mustn’t use this or that to…[Read more] -
replied to the topic Does anyone use microwaved "hot water bottles" ? Any good? in the forum General chat and catching up 8 years, 10 months ago
Tried the gel ones once. and I mean once. the microwave welded the front to the back and then burnt a hole for the gel to ooze out.
I didn’t overheat it, followed instructions etc.
I know microwave ovens can have hot spots but, as far as I am aware, they all do. Therefore I suspect the product was u/s rather than being totally my…[Read more]

I’m told that asparagus appreciates a little salt, so that would be a good place maybe.
First thought was the potato bed and hope to grow salted chips 🙂 -

Re the cat door. I picked up a leaflet in our local pet store describing a cat flap that will only open in response to your cat’s microchip.
Sorry, can’t remember the manufacturer. May google be your friend 🙂 -

I wasn’t thinking you should buy commercial ones T&T, just that it should be possible to rig up something similar. After all it is basically a piece of glass, in a box, suspended over a water trough with a catch area at the bottom. May not be dead efficient but every little should help.
Can’t see that heavy metals would evaporate that easily -…[Read more]

Solar distillation should leave the heavy metals behind. I came across this site for one, but I’m sure there are plenty more.

Then I had the brilliant idea of looking at someone else’s avatar info
Thank you people

I still have no idea how to contact people who haven’t written to me though. Probably got some setting or other wrongly set
Maybe I should ask all 3000 odd members to send me a pm so I can use the reply button for anyone and everyone 😆 -

replied to the topic What keeps killing my vegetable plants? in the forum Vegetables 8 years, 10 months ago
Hi BW.
The young purple growth on the white sweet potatoes is just the way the plant grows. The orange ones – grown in the same areas don’t have do it.
Similar to the way some trees have a different coloured young foliage I guess.
