Alrighty, I’m at this again!! I’m down to 4 bars of the last batch I made and I NEED to make some more.
Last time I used cold process as all the oils I used were liquid. This time I’m thinking of using copha or superfry or similar to get a harder (hopefully longer lasting) soap. Do I HAVE to heat all the oils to the same temp or can I just melt…[Read more]

Not surprising at all. I was talking to a lady at the markets today who grows cherries, she was saying that the cherries we import form the USA are sprayed with chemicals that have been banned in Australia for over 30 years. But it’s ok to import them and eat them with the banned chemicals… :rip:

replied to the topic What are these critters in my chookie's poo?! in the forum Backyard livestock 11 years ago
Doesn’t look like maggots, maggots get laid in little clumps and are like skinny bits of rice, they look very round. Is it possible they are the young of liver fluke snails? Is the chook acting normally?

Substitute wheat for spelt. It’s actually a preferred flour for pasta puritans. It’s lovely!

Welcome Shell!
I’m getting some ex-battery rescue hens at the end of March, they get rescued just before their slaughter date and have many good years of laying and discovering what it’s like to be a real chooky left in them. Let me know if you’re interested.I’m just up the road at Eagle Heights. Nice to see a fellow local on here

That’d be great HVH – nice and close and would give us some time to get a coop built properly. I’ve heard someone sells chicks up here at the markets too. Any feedback there?

replied to the topic Would you recommend ducks? in the forum Backyard livestock 11 years, 3 months ago
Yep, looks like it will be the chickens for us. I did look at some bantam varieties of ducks, but I don’t want to pester the neighbours and the house behind us is rented as a holiday home over the weekends so can be having smells :rip:
Chookies will do us nicely, just need to source some now and get the coop set up!!:D

Bridging finance can be hard to secure, depending on your income. To get help choosing a loan, i’ve used Aussie 3 times now and they have been fantastic. Their software automatically chooses the best loans for you, depending on what you want from it then you just choose the cheapest one. It is absolutely free and they do everything.

Learning that’s why I said if it has accurate gauges. You’d need to monitor it just as you would a canner. The weights and volumes of canners are as varied as the jars you put inside them, and the canning instructions would be different for each model. I was not advising guesswork at all, but if its been tested before then they do work on the…[Read more]

Pressure canners and cookers are the same thing. The only usual difference is that the canner will have a temp/pressure gauge so you can be certain your food will be safe. If you happen to have a pressure cooker with accurate gauges on it – i’d say go for it.
