I don’t know if this will make you feel better or worse but…
Neither, just interested in learning more.
Yes, I understand what you’re saying Andre. But currently in Australia the recommendation is for a child to have approx 24 separate immunizations by the age of 2, some of those are combination vaccines. I don’t think that’s the same…[Read more]

I have never been able to reach a conclusion regarding whether immunization is a good thing or not. There is no denying that some children have reacted to immunizations; there is also no denying that there is a dramatic increase in the incidence of autism, autoimmune disease, allergies etc. But there are also many children who have received…[Read more]

Because you’re doing raw honey (yum!), Gianna’s advice seems a better idea. You could sterilise the jars and leave them in the oven to cool until you’re ready to fill them. Of course you’d have to deal with the lids another way.

Cover them with water in a pot, and boil for 10 minutes. I don’t know if you can do the same to the lids; maybe experiment?
Are you putting hot honey in the jars? If so, you need time it so that the jars and honey are both hot, or you could shatter the jars. And if you’re doing raw honey, let the jars cool first.

I would have taken it one step further. I would have asked for the name of the person quoting the price, then prove the ‘error’ and insist on speaking to the manager, immediately. You wouldn’t be able to prove anyone was lying, but you would have alerted the manager to a problem with that staff member, and possibly be adding to a list of…[Read more]

We’re on the same wavelength Karma! I’ve been reading up on Kefir lately. I’d love to get hold of some. I’ve read that it tastes somewhat like drinking yoghurt, but instead of 6 different cultures, kefir has 30! 🙂

Ali, I’ve only used recycled jars in the Presto. I stack 375ml jars – 2 layers of 8 jars. I don’t know how you could stack FV jars. Maybe an extra canning rack could sit on top of the jars?

Ali I did 16 jars of tomatoes in the canner yesterday. At 5lb for 20mins. No fogging up the kitchen at all, it was great! I am very, very tempted to buy an All American 15.5Qt now. It should be a lot quicker, for smaller amounts, rather than building up pressure in the 23Qt Presto. And it uses much less water.

Sorry Ali, lots of 2″ lids, but all of them rusty :rip:
There’s some that I haven’t seen before, they don’t have any numbers or the size pressed into the lid, only “Fowlers Melbourne”.

Ouch! Do you have some chamomile essential oil?
A recipe I haven’t tried, it’s in my oils book:
3 drops Lavender and 2 drops Chamomile in a teaspoon of alcohol. Blend and apply 3 times over a day.I would apply neat Lavender oil myself. That’s what we put on any insect bites.

Nev there are lots of benefits to eating coconut oil. Scroll down this page and see if there’s anything that catches your interest. I first learnt about coconut oil through Weston A Price Foundation and Nourishing Traditions.

Thanks Tam, yes I should have clarified that the boiling water bath is only safe with high acid foods. I was clear as mud when I mentioned the organisms that cause spoilage. I should have added that the organisms that cause death need a pressure canner.
