I totally agree with you Dennis!
Our local council has web pages dedicated to emergency preparedness so I’ve made steps to start doing these as a minimum.
I love the show because some people are doing some really amazing things! Others worry me a little about the scenario they choose to prepare and certain attitudes they might have but each to…[Read more]

Know of any other shows like this?

Thanks 🙂 I inserted the pics to make it easier to view.
I’d like to get another 1-2 chicks – do you think they’ll all fit happily in the cage for a few weeks until their feathers come in?
And should I get some of the same breed or different? My mum might be giving me her hen if she gets along with y babies too, fingers crossed.
I’m so nervous…[Read more]

Ah, I feel so stupid. I’ve been wanting them for such a long time now but it never occurred to me – I went in to get point of lays to start with but ended up walking away with ordering chicks. I’ll talk to the poultry place and see if I can postpone, otherwise if it’s too late I’ll get one of those ceramic lamps.. and try to figure out what else I…[Read more]

I’m new to having chickens and didn’t realise it’d be a problem as I’m going to keep them inside and my home is warm and well-insulated. Of course I’d rather wait if there was a risk of them getting sick etc – I just never saw anything about it being a problem. I wrote another post looking for advice (being new and all) and nobody shared a concern…[Read more]

Just wishing you the best and hoping that the days look brighter for you soon 🙂
If you ever find that you’re feeling flat a bit more than you’d like, I highly recommend researching some Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) sites 🙂 There are some that are great tools to help you work (or anyone you know, like your hubby when he’s ready) to work…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear the bad news.
I don’t know about it personally from experience, but I’ve been a fan of the Wellness Warrior – she apparently defeated cancer by using Gerson Therapy.
It can’t hurt for your friend to have a look – may find some inspiration and if it helps, it’s worth trying.

I’m thinking about setting up some kind of net over my garden, think that will work?

Ah… I am nesting and have the same dilemma!
The big one for me is having a vision for each room – what purpose I want it to serve (all the activities that belong in that space) and how I want it to function (place your ‘work zones’ in an efficient and logical manner).
For example, I want my kitchen to be ‘warm and inviting’ but also clean and…[Read more]

I’ve read that to ward off possums and rabbits..
Combine 2 cups of torn wormwood leaves with 2 cups of chilli and 2 cups of water. Boil for about 10 minutes, strain and allow the mixture to cool before spraying around the vegetable patch. This can also be used to combat aphids.
It’s from my “organic backyard” magazine but I’ve yet to give it a…[Read more]

Would someone be able to explain briefly what happens? I’m going to trust you all and sign the petition because I can’t stand cruel treatment of animals.. such disrespect to the creatures that will eventually nourish us. I don’t mean to stick my head in the sand either and I’d normally brave it myself but I’m really pregnant and hormonal and doubt…[Read more]

replied to the topic Why don't my sheep seek shelter? in the forum Backyard livestock 10 years ago
I’ve seen sheep out in the rain before too, their oily wool is water resistant unless they move a lot and it can seep into it, so that’s probably why they just stand there. I think it’s more important to keep them cool than dry.
