rabbits are good eating and easy to dress and breed prolifically. There ends the benefits. If you have precious little space and a lot of time then MAYBE you’ll want to keep them in cages, Europeans, especially Germans do this often raising the very big breeds.
here the heat and diseases are major impediments. But to me the…[Read more]
“The increasing shrillness of the message about global warming has about it a certain messianic flavour usually associated with religious faith rather than empirical or scientific knowledge”

Not really, plenty of light enters the room and when the sun is on the bottles the colors effect the tone of the room.
I have only tested the coloir over 3 months and to date it has not settled in the bottles. That was my biggest fear.
There are many implementations of bottles in building. My purpose is to make building mud walls faster. The…[Read more]
Aww Cmon. There’s a New Year just poking its nose over the horizon …. a new day to look forward to … sure there’s some troubles, but when has there not been. We have it SOOOO good, and we are smart and amazingly innovative.
If I can believe in you, your good intents, your positive contribution to life, and your energetic efforts to return…[Read more]
While the pro and con camps are providing some entertainment, the good thing we can mostly all agree on is that we ALL are pretty much more concerned with preserving nature, some degree of replacements for fossil fuels and generally being more eco aware.
All good I would have thought
So really, let’s not get our knickers twisted too much.…[Read more]
What an EXCELLENT resource. Thanks for posting the link. I’m going to save it to hard media – its too good to risk it not being available in the future.
Nice to see your pics. I can appreciate the above ground thing for those who are unable to enjoy gardening any other way but, sorry to be contentious, not otherwise.
Wood chips and sawdust or wood shavings are 3 different beasts.
Sometimes saw dust can be a barrier to rain water entering the ground. Just dump some and water it using a sprinkler to replicate rain … maybe you’ll find the top bit of sawdust is wet but it is very dry underneath.
I’d be inclined to mix in some more fibrous matter. I used…[Read more]

Original Poster getting back to Original idea
As council approval for multiple structures has become a severe impediment I have modified my thinking a little.
I’ve pretty thoroughly researched the Mike Oehler style earth covered “underground house”. His major point of difference is the idea that you also have an opening on the uphill side of…[Read more]
I’m interested in your question. Why is it you are asking it? Why is a building permit a question 11 years on?
The key to using drop boxes is to make sure there is no alternative route for bunnies to take. They must go through the tunnel you provide to get from one paddock to another. This means that in cattle country where just a 5 strand barbed wire fence is used you are going to have to dig down about 20 – 30 cm to set chicken wire in place and run it…[Read more]
I suggest you look into TRAPPING. Its a LOT LESS WORK (my biggest criteria) and it is very KIND to the bunnies.
There are a few methods – ferreting is NOT one of them.
I strongly suggest Rabbit Dropboxes. These are specially constructed for the purpose – and you can easily catch 20 plus rabbits a night. The idea is to make sure a length of…[Read more]
Some 25 years ago I studied rabbit production with a bloke who lived on the Mid North Coast. I note his website is no longer happening.
I Australia Mixxo and Calecie Virus means rabbits pretty much must be raised indoors in cages. That puts them up there with pigs and chooks as a factory farmed foodstuff. I’m not here to say any activity is…[Read more]

A lot of SCIENCE gets spoken, and a fair bit of FEAR seems to ride along. Some stalagmite cores from caves on the Nullabor were shown on TV recently … they show a lot more than ice cores and are a lot easier to get at. Anyway they showed a “41,000 year cycle” between ice ages.
Given “The age of the Earth is 4.54 ± 0.05 billion years (4.54…[Read more]
It’s just a fact of life that the older we get the more we set up walls around ourselves in terms of what we will accept / like … or not accept. I’m just like Tropical Rose and I’m sure many others, there are things I am not sweet on anymore and others I really want. I am a bit of a flashy dancer and right now I miss that like Xmas, I love…[Read more]
Our thinking is very similar. Like MilkyWayGirl I’m interested in sharing the property with people on a longer term arrangement. Yes, give people an exposure to the lifestyle but after a short while some commitment to longer term friendship would be nice.
While I think privacy is over-rated in suburban life, I think a balance between some…[Read more]
