Aussies Living Simply

  • When I click on ‘Awesome’ on someone’s thread the whole screen goes funny.  It almost turns 3D.  I backspace or refresh the page and my ‘Awesome’ click has disappeared.

  • I’m here.  I would probably visit more often if I had time for my own garden.  🙂

  • I haven’t been here for a long time and I can’t view the entire forum.  It cuts short in the right margin by about one word.  I use Chrome if that is any help.

How big is your peach tree? With smallish ones it is possible to hand pick the curly leaf infestations off the tree. We put them in a plastic bag and allow them to rot, don’t put them on the compost of course.

It can take a number of years to completely rid the tree of curly leaf but it CAN…

  • I ‘planted’ some goldfish in big plastic tubs the size of a half barrel in the garden for liquid fertiliser. They seem happy enough and have survived a week. Their water is great fertiliser and it is a cheap way to build a pond. I got one tub for $6 and the other for $11. I don’t think the tubs are UV protected so I have to keep an eye on…[Read more]

  • Thanks for your post Rubicon. The area between Bemboka to Bega is where I am hoping to head. Maybe we’ll be neighbours.

I spoke with a man who has land near Goulburn and his piece of advice was to make sure the land came with a dam as having a dam built isn’t that simple anymore. I’m assuming there are lots of council regulations that go with it.

  • I currently run a business (part of a franchise) and hope to finish up in 2 years. I want to go back to doing Aged Care (I loved it!). It shouldn’t be too hard to find such work, and I only want to work about 3 days a week.

  • I once bought a bush block in Queensland when I was younger. Looking back I thought I had bought a bargain, but the block was over 2 hours from civilisation and it didn’t take long for thoughts of bush fires to enter my mind. It was also too far to be even used as a weekender by most.

Today I could buy my land and commute to work to continue…[Read more]

  • Thank you for your reply Snags. I do have an area in mind and it is very fertile with high rainfall. But that can be a ‘problem’ when you want to keep the grass down. Four acres is my minimum size in land I will be seeking, and I was using a cow as an example to keeping the grass down. You didn’t tell me how you keep your grass down?

    As…[Read more]

Thanks Bel. I haven’t seen that site before. It looks like whatever I choose to do I will have to wait until the slugs are actually munching away on the leaves again. There doesn’t seem to be a preventative way to fix the problem. With codling moth I wrap sticky tar paper around the trunk of the tree to prevent the females from climbing up.…[Read more]

  • Not all phones are able to receive photos by sms. I’m not sure why. So the problem may not be with your phone.

I try to be organic, but I haven’t found an organic solution to this problem yet. My trees are too large to throw ash on them (and I don’t have a fireplace). I am in the suburbs and I found them on a couple of cherry trees in the front yard and 2 plum trees in the back.
