Aussie, I love wicking beds so much I have converted half the veg garden beds. Still need topping up every week, but they last at least a fortnight, even with 35+ degrees and dry wind blowing. Great for above ground crops.

3 adult can live quite comfortably on 500w solar panels & 880 amp/hr batteries.
We use a 120 l upright freezer (turned on 4 times a day for 1/2 hour) as a fridge, laptops, fluro lights this setup cost $3,500 and gives us 7 days autonomy. Haven’t turned the genny on for power in the 3 years we have had the system -

My dishwasher does an excellent job. Uses no electricity, cleans perfectly everytime, and looks good whilst doing it.
And as a special treat I sometimes do it for her. 🙂Cheers

We got hold of some fresh horse manure mixed it with some straw
waited 4 or 5 days for decomposition to begin put a couple of inches of dirt on top then put seed trays on topthis is how it was done pre electricity (check out Victorian Kitchen Garden series)
cheap, easy and reliable (not subject to power failures)
