Hi,
Thanks for all the replies, sorry haven’t been able to get back to you. This year has been all about rebuilding the property/garden after the SA fires. So starting with the basic fruits and veggies first. I have started noticing them around places though and discovered both diggers and greenfeast stock them too.
Thanks -

Thanks guys.
Very good point about leaving some for the Roos, I was so busy trying to workout how to deal with it I didn’t see the big pic. I will just clear around the base of the plants then leave the rest till I clear the bed after cuts have finished
Thanks Dell

thank you for such a quick response i was getting worried cause I had just processed for 2 hours at the 3/4 mark and if you google water bathing instructions they say to cover the jars with water. but the fowlers book says 3/4 and to have someone else confirm it always makes you feel better

replied to the topic does anyone know anything about alternatives to septic systems?I need ideas. in the forum Building and Construction 9 years, 5 months ago
I know you posted this a couple of months ago, was just wondering if you problem has been resolved. Also we have only just moved to an acreage 18months ago and the property is run on a biocycle. It has been fantastic. we dont use the water on any edible plants but it does go to a small bushy natural shelter area near the house.
I asked the…[Read more]

Thanks everyone for your quick replies, very helpful
Ok a few answers, I am planning one preserving jams, fruit and vegetables. After a bit of research have discovered I will need to both hot water bath preserve (like fowlers) and pressure preserve depending on what exactly I am preserving. Which reminded me of my grandma and she used to pressure…[Read more] -

We are looking in the Adelaide hills between birdwood and mt barker. I am hoping to have chickens and a group of sheep for wool and to breed for lamb meat and a few calves for beef. My goal is to be in the new house by Christmas 2009.

I too have just started spinning (jan08) and I get all my fleece through the handspinners and weavers guild. Every month they have their meeting and before hand they have wool sales ( and dyes, silk, glitz, roving and stacks of other stuff.) I have been paying about $9-15 kg for fleeces, some coated other not. some colour some white. I have…[Read more]

The egg shells broken up into sharp small pieces cut the soft under belly of the snails/ slugs therefore stopping them getting to the vegies. I have had great success with this but I don’t use enough eggs to cover the area I need to. – so short
I do use the beer method but find that unless they snails/ slugs happen to be crawling along where…[Read more]

I had the exact same problem with my hubby and the sand pit – I didn’t want to use chemicals either – Mum is a kindy teacher and they have problems in kindys with sandpits, cats and germs but can’t use chemicals and they had to use Bleach in water and vinegar. Bleach the last week of term and vinegar during the term – watered down to 1:10 ratio.…[Read more]

Hi wombat – I’m just new here and this is one of the first posts I looked at – I got all excited to read your post as I have spent the last month looking for a wool spinner so I can learn to spin my own wool – But alas I live in SA – If you do not get any takers for pick up would you consider shipping it ( at my cost of course)?
