Will try and get some pics soon. But I kept a sweet potato alive in a wicking bed. It was in the polyhouse so the warmth kept it going really. It gets cold here in the mountains.
Lemon grass and capsicums forming, but this is also due to the polyhouse. -

Hi HG,
I still have my 2 big wicking beds made from 2 IBC’s cut up. They are in the polyhouse and it gets hot in there so they need a lot of water.
The W beds are 2/3rds of the ibc each and the 1/3rd is earmarked for grow beds for the AP system.
But I think the wicking beds are too deep. Or I have the water reservoir too far away from the roots of…[Read more] -

Looking good HG, my system is still standing quietly waiting for time to set it up. Good to see yours in action.

Hi Marigold,
I had rats eating my chook food more recently, which is why I bought the grandpas feeder and now the dineachook.
My chooks are terrified of grandpas feeder but I have heard of other peoples chooks being fine with it, which is why i bought it. But the clang of the lid coming down makes them jump. Perhaps a new generation of birds may…[Read more] -

Well I am happy to report that the dineachook works. My chooks have taken to it well.
The grandpas feeder is still available to them aswell but i have to put a large piece of ply wood on the step or they won’t use it. The wood keeps the thing open so the purpose is defeated!

be careful Nane with those step feeders. I spent $200 and my chooks won’t use it.
I just bought a Dina chook, I think we wrote about it further back in this post. Early days but the chooks seem to be using it.
I hang streamers and a lace curtain in the doorway and only have it open just enought to let the chooks in. This seems to have discouraged…[Read more] -

No that makes perfect sense, It is a little amazing though, you must have been exhausted after 50 chooks and very dirty. Did any mites jump onto you after the powder was applied?

So what is your set up bandicoot valley?
Do yo have some one hold the chooks for you with their legs toward you or do you manage on your own?

I recently moved to the country and inheritaed some chooks and they had scaley mite on their legs. My neighbour gave me some vaseline mixed with sulphur powder. I rubbed it into the legs and saw an immediate different. One chook that I thought was old as she walked with a limp suddenly stopped limping. Some weeks later now and I need to do another…[Read more]

Try the website. http://www.dineachook.com.au/
I just ordered a feeder, it was $44 and then I was slugged $15 for postage. Funny how these sites only let you know the shipping after you have gone thru the process to buy. Thinking shipping was included.
Never mind I just hope it works. I recently spent $200 on the Grandpas feeder and the chooks…[Read more] -

I believe most politicians are there to try and make a difference. Probably all of them! Its just they believe different things, hence different parties.
Some may get comnpromised and that is unfortunate but it does attract strong minded people. Big egos perhaps, as we have seen in recent days.
They have to look at the big picture, well they…[Read more] -

Hi, I read once in a Jackie French book how to get chooks out of being clucky. And it has worked every time for me.
Simply bring the chook into the light for 3 or more days. No secret dark places to hide.
I put them into a cage of sorts where they can see whats going on, are safe and surrounded by their mates and the day light changes the brain…[Read more] - Load More
