I tried canning salsa for first time this year, we are very pleased with the flavour of this recipe. I added 2 Tb dried oregano and a few very hot small chillies for extra bite.

Lucky you to have a sex-linked breed!
I’ve got 8 goslings of indeterminate breed and gender, and the parents won’t let me near them for clacker inspection  -

You shouldn’t need to refrigerate or waterbath lemons preserved in brine – the salt does all the work for you. I’ve got several batche sin the pantry, the oldest is nearly two years and they are still fine. I don’t rinse mine off, sometimes I remove the flesh if I plan to finely chop them for rice or salad, or I add them whole to soup or casserole.

creeker replied to the topic Mutton recipes? in the forum Homecooked food (Recipe Request) 11 years, 3 months ago
Any of the slow-cook Middle East / Persian /Moroccan / African recipes work well with older sheep meat. They often include astringent or acidic ingredients (quince, lemons, pomegranate, etc) that tenderise the fibres and cut through the fatty taste. Our sheep get harvested as hogget – tastier than lamb, but not as strong as mutton.

Fancy being born on International Talk Like A Pirate Day!
Aaaah I knew there had to be an explanation for the accent!
Thanks for the good wishes.
I got the best of presents, a set of eight individually wrapped goslings, courtesy of Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert.

Haven’t seen this new one, but you can get a lot of info via the internet already abut pharmacognosy…

King’s American DispensatoryAnd as far as using poisons as medicines, you can’t go past the homeopathic pharmacopoeia and materia medica, IMHO of course.

It’s a powder.
I sprinkled a light dusting on the dirt floor of dog’s shed and in the chook pen. You can use it in the garden, or in the house, or direct on the animals just like you would with flea or insecticide powder. I also had moderate success with sprinkling it on ant trails – we have major problem here with bull ants, they would carry us…[Read more] -

I used diatomaceous earth last summer for dog and poultry living quarters – no problems with fleas or lice. Definitely will be using it again as the weather warms up.

creeker replied to the topic Where to plant seeds e.g. boxes / soil / seed trays? in the forum Vegetables 11 years, 4 months ago
I’ve been starting mine off indoors in ziplock sandwich bags lately.
I got fed up with seeds disappearing (ants, birds, chooks) and seedraising mix drying out before anything sprouted. I’ve been very pleased with the results so far, even 2-3 yr old dodgy seeds have been germinating.
About half fill a bag with seedraising mix, squirt in some…[Read more]
