From memory it took several weeks. Some we may have left up to six weeks. We normally leave them in a crate in the laundry where it is light but not direct sunlight and then sort through to find the ones that have good shoots on them and plant them first. Then go back in a couple of weeks and plant the rest.

In the supermarket they will discount…[Read more]

    Hello Busybee,

We have used bought organic potatoes before when our own seed stock was short. We did leave them to chit before planting. From what I recall no issues at all. They grew well and some of them ended up being our new seed potatoes.

  • Hi Vanessa,

We’ve only been using that netting for a couple of weeks and have fould like most things it has its pluses and minuses.

It is easy to errect but because we wanted to hold our young roosters in we would prefer it be higher as they can fly/jump over if they feel the desire.

  • Hello Jeweller,

I usually store mine in the pantry. I use brandy in the mix, the alcohol content helps it keep well out of the fridge.
This year for a change I am making a fruit mince with the brandy for using in the cake, pudding and fruit mince pies. This fruit mince will sit in a bowl not refrigerated for a couple of weeks before I make the goodies.

  • Hello russellm,

We had a similar situation some years ago and was told we had planted the vine in a spot where it was getting too much water so the vine grew beautifully but the fruit never formed properly.

  • Thanks so much Andre. We are looking forward to watching whatever you have sent.

Have to add I feel like a bit of a twit here as I’ve sent you a PM(I think) about the list. I have to work out how this site works. C__p couldn’t even work out how to add a smiley face. Anyway thanks very much indeed.

    Hello mskity,
When you say mites do you mean the ones that have the sclaes on their legs stand out? If yes we have had good success with rubbing our chickend legs with vaseline/oil and rotating the perches. If it’s lice we have had success with putting a lot of dolarmite/lime throughout their pen.
    Best of luck.

Forgot to ask. How long does everyone leave their brews before drinking?

  • replied to the topic Ginger beer in the forum Brewing and winemaking 7 years ago

Adrian. Could I have more details please.

Approx how much ginger and yeast do you use?

When you say bulk prime with 50g sugar is that fpr the whole batch? Do you just stir it till it dissolves and then bottle?

Do you seal it when it is fermenting or have an open top? I’m trying to work out if our plastic keg that seals will do.

    Thanks

Thankyou flyonline. We’ll give your recipe a go. And yes the canned stuff is rubbish. Just two questions.
When you first put it in a glass jar you say to cover, did you mean leave the lid loose or cover with say fabric?
Also when bottling would it make any difference if we didn’t use glass? At the moment we use plastic bottles as they expand when…[Read more]

Thank you everyone. The piglets are now two weeks old. Eleven in total. One didn’t make it past the first day. Yesterday we let them all out of their yard and they had a great time following their mum around very happily. Mum seems very contented and settled.

Well we bought the bag of supplement, got the colostrom from the freezer and warmed it up, went back to the pig and it wasn’t needed as she has started feeding them. So happy.

    Thankyou BlueWren.

I have phoned the vet but not a lot of help. Just said put them on a supplement. I have taken a bucket of one of our cow’s colostrom out of the freezer as I’ve heard that it can be used for piglets as well and we will buy some supplement just in case. At the moment the pig still seems uninterested in the piglets. We’ll keep…[Read more]

  • We only feed cracked corn and wheat to the adult chooks. We let them out about lunchtime each day to free range. Other than that we have a feeder in their pen with a mineral mix.

    I’ll keep searching for information.

I think the Australian standards for labelling of products could do with a complete overhaul. Currently an Australian manufacturer only needs at least 50% Australian product to put on their label “Australian Made”

If anyone has information on labelling standards so I can have a better understanding of what I…[Read more]
