Make sure your chook yard is python proof, this means a small mesh netting, not regular chook net. Also means no trees or shrubs close or touching the fences and the bottom needs to be buried or similar.
Make sure they are closed in every nite. Be prepared to lose one occasionally, during daytime on a free range basis they will only get one, if…[Read more] -

I live in the subtropics, I have all sorts from huge australorpes to scraggy little cage layer hens. They all do fine, can remember when I lived in a dry climate the chooks would run for cover if a shower of rain passed by, but here they will happily stay out all day doing their thing, get soaked but doesnt worry them.
Your biggest problem will be…[Read more] -

The colour of the shade cloth is very important, white is the only one used by horticulturalists, green is the worst colour, altho some plants like it, for instance orchids

well at the risk of upsetting some readers I’ll tell you how the old timers did it, tie the dead chook to the dogs collar for a few days, apparently it worked.

Interesting story caddie, one that I think is true, there is an incredible amount of electric radiation around high voltage transmission lines.
Saw a bloke on tv standing near a power line at night time holding a florescent
light tube….and it glowed just from electricity in the air -
replied to the topic holstein heifers…old enough to put in calf? in the forum Backyard livestock 7 years, 2 months ago
Yes, they are old enough and big enough.
However, you mention eating the offspring, well you have two dairy breeds here, good for milk but not for meat. I would cross breed with a Hereford or similar. -

These claims are amazing…..
– the turbines will dry out the land – just like holding up a wet t-shirt to a fan
– the oil used to lubricate the turbines flicks off onto the surrounding soil, polluting the earth
– birds of prey fly into the turbines, killing them
– turbines blow up, killing people more than 2km away with flying debris
– they are…[Read more] -

I find this happens to my zucs as well, but then may swing around to all female, which is just as bad as the fruit falls off after a few days if not fertilised.
I have no idea why. -

Yep, the crop is always to the side, even in adult birds.

Mukluk, they stay together ok without tape but need to be packed in some sort of tray and need a little more tlc, not so good for kids maybe.
The bottoms are plenty strong enough, the trick is to have a concave mould that allows the paper to ‘overfold’ which lets the paper return to about flat if you see what I mean. -

ok, cherry slugs are controlled with any dry powder, old talc, wood ashes, lime etc. They dont come up the trunk.
Banding is mainly for ants, which farm the aphids and scale. Petro jelly can be used, or commercial insect glues, put on a band around the trunk. I use masking tape. Make sure no limbs touch the ground, or anything else to create a bridge. -

Sounds like scale insects but depending on how big your finger nail is, I’ve never seen them that large

Have to stop the ants first or everything else is a temporary solution.
Once the ants are off the plant a simple cooking oil and soap will clear the scale. -

OK then, well pinto peanut is out as the cold would kill it.
I would never recommend sweet potato, it has a very vigorous root system and is a heavy feeder, also to get the tubers out of the ground will disturb the root systems nearby.
In your present location Mukluk I would grow a variety of clovers, in the summer they will die down but provide a…[Read more] -
