I made the first batch a few weeks ago & it worked well but didnt have much fozz & tasted ‘yeasty’. i started the second batch by dividing the remains of the first plant & coninued feeding. this batch was superb!!!
And i cut the sugar down by half when making up the bottles.
But when I started a new one altogether it was too yeasty in taste and…[Read more]

I use ordinary flour – Home brand, Black & Gold, for bread, without extra gluten & have pretty good results, just checked the packets of plain & wholemeal & protein levels are 10.8 and 11 respectively, so they’re on the ‘strong’ side . . . . . used to use Simply No Knead & they are good too. Still use the black bread tins i got from them about 20…[Read more]

I just love my slowcooker I have a Breville Avance… Bought a cheaper one first but it cooked too rapidly and didn’t turn itself off when it reached a set time. The Breville has a timer built it and will cook on slow for the time you desire then when its finished it will turn off and stay warm for up to 5 hours.
Tracie – what model is yours? I…[Read more]

Does it only work on whites?
It wasnt a white garment i tried it on – it was a colored pair of shorts with a sewn in bucklel, & rust had discoloured the multicoloured waistband & left a big mark on the beige front.

Reid_alderbooks – that story really touched me. We travelled the remains of the railway to the Burma border last year, as DH & a friend’s uncle were in the same camp at Songkurai. I will never forget that trip. Its stories like this that keep the memory of the men who worked on that railway alive. Thanks.

I just put pieces of sprouted tubers (orange ones) into the ground & they have spread every which way . . . . but, some questions . . . are the leaves edible? How do i know when / where a tuber might be? Are they heavy feeders? I rather like the ground cover effect, but will i be sorry that I have let them loose, as a couple of people have told…[Read more]

I use Willows markets – many stallholders sell their own seasonal produce. Can also recommend the Thai lady with her asian veges, also Adrian for local tomatos, cucumber, eggplant, parsley & basil. Many only sell 2 or 3 lines, so its easy to pick the ‘local’. I use the ‘commercial’ stalls for items that can’t be grown here and they are much…[Read more]

Apart from all the suggestions, the animal refuge is always in need of old sheets & towels for bedding and animal surgery needs – must not have rips/tears as paws can get caught in these.
