Thanks Judi B. Reckon i can manage that! I went to the library with the kids this arvo and borrowed a few Sally Wise books and a CWA cookbook – that’s bound to have a few slice recipes! Never thought about sitting out in the paddock with the laptop – how lovely. I picked up some more brewers grain for the animals today and picked some citrus and…[Read more]

I’m keen for some good slice recipes for the kids lunch boxes Judi B. Any you can share? School is nut-free….Today I picked up a heap of spent brewers grain for the animals. Tomorrow planning to do some gardening in the veggie garden.

I’m hearing you Kathy! We made a treechange from city to 25 acres about 18 months ago and it’s the best thing we ever did!

thanks dentydog. We certainly like it 🙂 Today we picked up some spent grain from Lady Burra Brewery to feed our pigs, chickens and ducks. They love it!

FB is so impersonal. You get a real feel for people here. I miss the busy days of old. I hope people return!

I like that tip Vanessa. I’ll give it a go on the blasted Beerenberg jars which are the worst labels! Otherwise i hot soak, scrape then use Eucalyptus oil (which isn’t cheap). DH has just ordered us a pallet of new jars cos we can’t collect enough old jars

I’d be planting a heap of peas and broad beans! They grow quickly even in cold weather and they freeze well if you have a glut. A good beanie is a must if you hate gardening in the cold like i do!

replied to the topic What are you planting now?? in the forum In the Garden 5 years, 9 months ago
Everything is late here so I’m still picking tomatoes! :/ hubby planted some kale seed yesterday and I’m heading out now to plant some garlic. I’ll be planting onion seeds, peas, broad beans and brassica seedlings soon. Our shade cloth veggie garden does help to create a sheltered microclimate when it’s as cold as it is now.

I’ve really missed this forum – FB is just not the same! I’m going to make an effort to pop in here more often to update this thread and participate in others. I’ll be back with some farm pics later 🙂

yes, I did and do eat duck eggs. Also sell them to people at work. They have a greater ratio of yolk in the eggs, which is richer/creamier/thicker. I haven’t noticed any difference in taste though. They make great cakes, but also very lovely creamy scrambled eggs when mixed with hen eggs, and amazing mayonnaise. We switched to muscovies as we…[Read more]

Hi Ashilleong. I’ve had Indian Runners in the past – we kept them in the back yard of our 840m2 suburban block. They were quite low maintenance – they had a small fibreglass pond approx. 1.5m2 and 50cm deep. Ours free-ranged the entire yard during the day and were locked into a smaller pen at night for safety from foxes. They were quite vocal…[Read more]

Thanks GirlFriday and Bobbee. The shade cloth makes a massive difference in the garden. Even in winter, it seems to provide a degree of shelter and some extra warmth/protection. We certainly are learning lots as we go. Thanks for following 🙂 I should do another update soon…
