Pics and a bit of info about how we made our chicken house are in the link above. We opted for a permanent house with a run, although the girls are only locked in at night, during the day they have access to our whole backyard (the vegi patch is out the front safe from scratching and pecking).
I’m pretty…[Read more]
Hi Wendy, this place is really handy, lots of very helpful people.
I think you gave me some advice on the WA Poultry forum awhile back.
I’ve been told they don’t take long to learn how to use these feeders if you show them a few times.
I’ve also had a look at “grampa’s feeder” advertised on the web and in organic gardner but it’s so totally overpriced, I’ve been looking for plans to make one but haven’t found anything yet.
Midas has calmed down over the last few days, he’s now more inerested in trying to reach the scaps I throw in their run, I’m still not game to let them free range with him yet but it’s a positive step.
I guess the girls like it because they have given me 5 eggs since last tuesday, they are still only small (50g average), and I…[Read more]
Hillbilly, thanks for the white wash info, it’s painted for the moment, but lost of people have recomended white wash so I think I’ll go ahead and do it soon, straight over the top of the paint.
Poor puppy is going to have to learn that chooks arn’t toys, I want to let them out to free range but he’s way too excited by them at…[Read more]
Ok, it’s been a few weeks since I‘ve updated this thread, work stopped on the chicken house for awhile because of some wet weekends, and other commitments, but last weekend (long weekend in WA) we got back on track and finished cladding the walls and the doors, put in a ceiling, insulation and a roof on top. Then threw some paint all over it…[Read more]
They are some good looking cats, blues alway look so magestic.
Daviesgang – I don’t want to tempt fate or anything but there are some blues advertised on gumtree in perth at the moment.;)
A one year old can still be pretty energetic, have patience, they will sort out their pecking order eventually. If they arn’t drawing blood leave them to it, if you interfeer it will just take longer.
If he’s not fixed yet that might help calm him down too.
I’ve got 3 fixed males in my house now (2 indoor cats and one indoor at night adopted…[Read more]
It sounds silly but I’ve got a chop stick that I’ve been using to plant seeds in the vegi patch for the last few months, I stick it in the corner of the when I’m done with it and I havent lost it yet, which is a wonder considering my track record with lost tools.
How Exciting! You must be chuffed! I’m about 3 weeks away from getting mine and I can’t wait!
How about Meg? As in Ginger Megs?
Ok, so another weekend is over and we’ve made a bit more progress on the chicken coop.
We had a couple of good scores, the fibre cement cladding and insulation turned out to be new, but excess left over from a building job so both were pretty cheap.
This is how it looked on Saturday morning before we started work for the weekend. Note the…[Read more]
5 eggplants that I made my first ever batch of pickle with!
It taste good, but not the same as mums, I’m sure she’s left a secret ingredient out of the recipe she gave me on purpose!
wocket – what a weird thing! Is it real? he looks just like my cat Sampson!
Atleast what ever it was didn’t waste any! It’s really cleaned it out!
A friend of mine had been battling a King Skink in her garen this summer, it’s eaten all sorts of vegis including pumpkin, scared her half to death (she though it was a snake when she saw it’s tail under the tomato bush) and keep digging under her fence again every…[Read more]
We found some cladding on gumtree today, so I’m off down the hill to collect it in the morning. I’ll post another update once there is some more visible changes.
Lintonpair, yeah they seem to be all over the place up here, we’ve only been here 9 months and I keep stressing out when I find them in the garden (when pruning…[Read more]
Love it! I’m going to go confer with my builder (hubby) and add one to the chook coop he’s working on!
Cheers everyone 😀
I knew I could depend on this place for a bit of positive reinforcement (People at work just look at me funny when I start rabbling on with exciement about my chicken house)
I work up this morning feeling about 110 years old, I sanded and puttied the floor boards in it yesterday an now I’m hurting – shows how unfit I…[Read more]
Have a look at http://www.backyardchickens.com the site is base in th usa but there are lots of awesome coop photos and a great coop design forum too.
Go on, click it, if this thread made you smile you’ll love cats in sinks.
My Sampson lovs sinks, but only dry sinks, he often spends he night in our bathroom sink.
Bel – that sounds like these ones, there are always ants all over them.
Aldrum – Nah, Nona was a good lady, although Nono used to make some pretty nasty wine – real mouth puckering stuff.
