White-ish stuff.. what is it?

Hello from tropical north.. uhh, sorry, Western Victoria! Boy is it humid!!
Anyway, onto the question at hand. 😉
Marty and I have been discovering something we first thought to be .. puke?.. on the mulch. It pops up here and there, and it has (according to Marty, because I’m not touching it!!) a “cake” like texture. It’s sometimes orange in colour, but mostly it’s been white-ish. They’ve always been out on the eucy-mulch in the very back, but this morning one appeared on the compost that’s on the bamboo in the front garden.
Does anyone have any idea what this stuff could be?
Edit: having pic issues. 🙂
It looks bizarre! Have you broken one open? Is it some sort of nest???
It looks like a fungus to me, or rather, the remains of the fruiting part of a fungus – perhaps something akin to native bread – laccocephalum mylittau?
Yep, I’d go for the fruiting body of a fungus. Is there any spider web stuff spreading out from the bottom into the mulch?
Marigold is spot on with Slime Mould
I dunno!!!!!! But Marigold knows lots of stuff.:tup::tup:
Oh yes, for sure. We looked up slime mould after reading the replies, and yep, that’s the stuff! It does have what seems to be spider web stuff at the bottom reaching out into the mulch. I didn’t even know slime mould existed until today. Amazing! We’ve had the yellow one, too. It was most disgusting! 😆 Funny how Wikipedia even has: “Fuligo septica, the “dog vomit” slime mold” – we weren’t far wrong with that one! 😆
I take it that slime mould isn’t a bad thing to have in the garden?
