Been away for a while, so haven’t been here. But with colds flu and rain have mainly been attacking indoor projects such as cleaning, decluttering and cooking.
Made my first ever (can’t believe I haven’t made one before as I love rice) risotto, and it was a success (pumpkin and carrot flavour), plus my first ever attempt at lemonade scones (can’t believe I haven’t done that recipe before either, worked pretty well given my scones are usually rocks…). Few other successful cooking projects, but didn’t get around to making marmalade, so will have to do that next weekend.
(now need to do some exercise after all that eating!)

Not much happening in my garden at the moment as everything has shut down for winter so just planning right now. Making a list for an eden seeds order for spring and starting to collect and stock pile the old hay that the cows have fouled. Did lock all the chooks in a small pen to cull out excess roosters and old girls but couldn’t bring myself to do the deed right now so let them out again, so they have a reprieve …………………….but have way too many!!!July 21, 2015 at 5:17 am #536433
I did some weeding and mulching, chopped up some dead water hyacinth and dried out algae for the mulch.
Planted some choy sum and tatsoi and threw another handful of calendula seed over the garden, took some cuttings of elderberry and lemon balm and potted up some native violets.July 25, 2015 at 4:16 am #536434
I moved 2 broc box self watering gardens and planted them up with tatsoi and triffids, I threw another lot of calendula seed around the garden and picked a few daffodils for inside.
Then it was time to come inside and tidy up the craft cupboard …. I chickened out and only did one shelf…. all the other shelves will still be there tomorrow ….. don’t want to rush these things LOLJuly 25, 2015 at 9:58 pm #536435
Finally it has stopped raining and spent the day weeding, enough to fill the bin to overflowing, going to have to borrow a neighbours for our pickup Monday. Picked all the lemonade lemons and will probably juice them today and freeze it for cordial. Seeds I planted last week are having a slow start probably due to the cold weather.
Would like to clean up my Craft room Judi B but I never seem to get to it, always always something on the to do list in front. Oh and I forgot to tell you all I got a box from Harrods no less, present of Old County Rose china 2 cups and saucers and a giant teapot.July 29, 2015 at 5:48 am #536436
beautiful day out there, more sheet mulching for meJuly 29, 2015 at 8:06 am #536437
I spent most of today swearing at the computer and Bigpoo I’ve been online 5h32min trying to get updates and trying to get messages from facebook….
I also weeded out an area of the garden and moved the rock edge making the garden smaller so I can put a seat there to watch the birds at the birdbath.August 1, 2015 at 4:39 am #536438
DH went to the country markets this morning and bought some tools and bits & pieces, when he was just about ready to leave the car park he saw some noisy miners attacking something …. he thought it was a large moth but it was a tiny little zebra finch so he rescued it, he thought we’d be composting it when he got home but it was still alive so we’ve got it in a plastic container with a hanky over the top all the bird cages have the bottoms off and covering stuff in the garden…..Zeb is running around like crazy…. so DH has had to go to town and get some seed for it.
I stayed home cleaned the laundry did a load of washing and started experiment #2 with the breadmaker…. first loaf was a bit wet and rose so much it flopped in the middle …. this one looks much better.August 1, 2015 at 6:17 am #536439
I always finished off in the oven Judi if that is any help 🙂

fire is ready and waiting for a match if it gets cold tonightAugust 1, 2015 at 9:31 am #536440
I don’t trust my gas oven I haven’t baked a cake for ages…. slices, muffins, scones and biscuits are fine….. I need to get the mix right then I’ll try it in the small oven ……… not even sure I can fit a bread tin in there will have to get DH to fetch it for meAugust 5, 2015 at 7:27 am #536441
Bought my first 2 tomato plants for the season just need to work out how and where to plant themAugust 5, 2015 at 7:48 am #536442
I’ve got a lot of cape gooseberry seedlings so I will have to find a spot for them, pulled out some of the strawberry plants they were diseased so prepping the garden where they were for some feverfew.
The four elderberry suckers I potted up the other day are looking good, the wormwood cuttings are growing nicely and the last lot of daffodils I bought are finally sprouting the ones that I put in years ago have finished flowering.August 6, 2015 at 2:53 am #536443
Prepping the veggie garden for spring………………chooks are now locked out and have been adding manure and turning the soil over and the girls have done a magic job of clearing out all those grubs that were giving me grief every time I planted anything.
Will take me a few more days to get it all done and then it will be time to start some seeds off inside out of the frosts, looking forward to real veg again instead of stupid market stuff 🙂August 6, 2015 at 5:09 am #536444
Planted my first 2 tomatoes under plasticAugust 7, 2015 at 8:17 pm #536445
