This vine sprang up out of the garden a while ago, it’s growing all over the place and I’ve just noticed these fruits on it – I’m guessing it’s a weed, but can anyone tell me what it is please?
The leaves look like the dutchman’s pipe.. the fruit dosn’t look right col
I think it might be the second one
Moth Vine a weed Araujia sericifera
Oooh, thank you! Definitely a weed!
Yeps, definately moth vine. Don’t get the milky sap on you, it can be very irritating to the skin. The fruit is full of very fine feathery type seeds that fly everywhere.
First glance thought it was a choko 😮
Hmm.. I suspect I have that in my back yard too.. I also thought it was a choko.. guess it is going very soon.
This is a Choko. Just took the photo for this reply. Easiest way to ID a plant is from the leaf, flower and fruit, they’re all in the photo.
Anyway, even though you can eat’em (Choko) they still grow like weeds. 😉 That’s why I planted ’em, for shade.
Good looking Choko Bullseye:tup: wish I could grow some:( we love them.
Choko fruit is quite shiny. Moth vine fruit, is more a dull grey green with white sap.
Yeh, just been told by DH that what I thought was a choko growing up the back of the shed is actually one those weed vines that I carefully put wire up for last year. So that’s coming out. Lucky I have a choko growing up the pecan tree in the orchard (well almost growing). 🙂
