I bought 3 planet box stainless steel lunchboxes from the US for my kids and I love love love them. They were expensive (I did get them when the aussie dollar was 93 cents – but they still cost a lot). I got mine with the 2 little stainless steel containers, which are reasonably water tight. I put yoghurt in the little one, and have put baked beans in the large one with no leaking. I put them inside the lunchbox which also helps to keep them water tight.
three months later TheRobinsons- are you still happy with the planetboxes? I am thinking of one each for my DS7 and DD5…..
I bought some great ones for my kids from the online store Sweet Bubba. http://www.sweetbubba.com.au/
Colourful lids that fit and stay on really well. You can choose from a traditional lunchbox, or ones that have a divider in the middle. For my 2 yr old the yellow lid is great. My 4 yr old has the orange lid as snacks for kinder, and the blue lid for his lunch.
Try your local indian spice shop — my local in Brunswick East, VIC imports different spices and cookware from India and has a great collection of metal tiffin boxes. I picked up a great one with three different containers that all clip together with a metal lever.
I use some airtight/leakproof containers from GreenUrLife (www.greenurlife.com.au). They are great for my hubby’s lunches (usually leftovers with some form of sauce), and I also use them for the kidlets lunch boxes (especially for fruit salad, yoghurt, etc) in conjunction with a rectangular lunch box and snack container from this same business. Have been using them for two years now, and still going strong 🙂 .
