Anyone know an easy source for Spelt grain? I’d prefer a source around the Sydney/Wollongong region, with a second option around the Bathurst/Orange area.
I don’t know of anyone locally rw but have used Santos before for other things and found them good with delivery etc. They’re from up north and you can order online:
Thanks Misty. I’ll keep them in mind, but I should also have mentioned I’m not after organic grain. It’s double the price (or sometimes more) of normal commercial grain, and I’d prefer to keep my prices as low as possible.
Still, at $77/20kg it’s still cheaper than other organic suppliers I’ve seen.
Personally I wouldn’t discount organic spelt as an option.
In my local supermarket the price of conventional spelt flour is actually the same, if not marginally more expensive, as I can get the same amount organic at a local store. Not sure if there are just more organic spelt growers which has brought the price down, the mark ups between the stupormarket and the local organic shop or what but it sure surprised me when I did the sums.
I also have to say if you truly want spelt that I would be getting your hands on it soon. All my sources say that it’s going to start getting very hard to find, some of my local shops currently can’t get it as flour, I haven’t asked for grain, and those that do have it only have imported product.
