I’ve had the enormous privilege over the past couple of weekends of visiting two exceptional South Australian Open Gardens: Hamlyn Cottage owned by Sophie Thomson from Gardening Australia, and Irene Pearce’s Tickle Tank, a house built in a 50,000 gallon concrete water tank with a fabulous surrounding garden. Size-wise these gardens are at opposite extremes. Sophie’s garden rambles over 3 acres while Irene’s entire block is only 450m square.
Each garden uses drought-hardy plants and recycled and salvaged materials to great effect.
I wrote blog posts about both gardens with lots of photos. Let me know what you think. I’m happy to answer any questions.
