Thanks for all of the good work!
Thanks Ashilleong. Perp has been dealt with.
I don’t understand the spammers – do people actually click on those links?
Who knows, Ashilleong. I had a bit of a laugh at the profile of this last one, it said ‘visit my blogspot.. http://spam-villa…….etc
Also the tags used ‘change insurance company/best dog food for mastiffs’ etc.
Talk about a mixed bag.
Anyway, he/she/it has been zapped.
It seems J3918 wants to show us the Proper way to Break in New Basketball Shoes. Now if the shoe was on the other foot, I’m sure we’d be happy to be told to pull up our laces and toe the line. But it’s not so I reckon we give him the boot!
Is there anything more that can be done when screening people? Seems to be more and more spam
Thanks Steve, gone now.
It’s not too bad at present, Jye. We only seem to get one every few days. A while back we were getting several per day. I know they’re a pain, but the best thing to do is draw them to our attention and we’ll get rid of them. This thread seems to be working really well or that and I’m grateful to you all for highlighting these drips. Makes the task of getting rid of them relatively easy.
Yer I guess when you have heaps of people signing up one every few days isn’t bad !
In case you’re interested in how other sites do it.
Another forum I visit requires people to make an initial post on an introduction page, and also fill out a separate application form.
If a person makes a new post, before introducing themselves, the thread is locked until they do so. This is the best moderated forum I’ve come across.
Another completely different forum has a Newcomers Corner. They delete new users who haven’t posted anything new each week. New members can post in the Main Forum, but they cannot create a new post there until they have made x number of posts.
Also, most forums I’ve used have a sticky thread or two at the top of the page, with rules and regulations.
here is another “Just want to say hi”
and another “I am a new girl”
should be I am the new girl laby B
