I think the two forums he goes to most are Backyard Aquaponics and Murray Hallam’s – both have lots of info but I believe Murray is now charging for a lot of his info though still definitely worth reading what you can from his site. we’re lucky to have a trout farm about 10 minutes from home so sourcing fish is not a problem for us. Depends where you live as to what type of fish you can have – as above trout are no good in the heat.
I will have to keep that in mind as it gets quite hot where I am. Also need to get some prices on solar pumps.
Thanks snags & D. I have just read Heretical gardeners thread too on here. I will mull over it. Its scary how much tanks cost but a big enough set up would also provide emergency water supply. Im thinking of a pond like/above ground pool in set into our slopeing garden and a terraced area for beds
I have been thinking of putting cat fish in as a test till its working right then change over to perch or similar. The reason being the little cat fish are an easy to get pest so wont cost anything. I have noticed the ponds that I already have need a fair bit of shade to keep the green alge under control. I tried one out in the sun with a pump working a fountain but the alge still grew well. Only the shade seems to control it so far.
Um, wouldn’t he fish eat the algae?
They might eat some but it grew to fast and covered the whole pond. Anyway I have found the shade stops it.
