I believe the adult ticks have come out early this year with the two very hot days we have had in the last couple of weeks. I had my old (12yrs) golden retriever down with a tick last year but with wonderful vet care she pulled through and this year was all ready for them spending all Saturday last week end clipping her back then bathing and then the Advantix treatment. Yesterday was shearing day for by alpacas and not a day too soon as we use the opportunity while they are confined inocculate them and treat for tick prevention (Cydectin) but we already have one 8 month old girl down with tick and while we were going through the heard we found another 4 ticks on our animals. Our sick girl is getting better with the help of the vets but she has been down for over a week so it can be a slow process.September 27, 2008 at 12:29 pm #371309epsilonMember
:jawdrop:gosh everyone sorry to hear about the paralysis ticks – hope your animals recover well. As a child I used to get vitamin C powder for my guinea pigs who came from the local scientific research station :rip:- but I think they used to give my dad (their maintenance guy) a big jar of it which lasted years.
The other day I discovered a tick on my 5yo grandson’s scalp and removed it. My son doesn’t think there are paralysis ticks in the Perth Hills. Hope so:awch:September 27, 2008 at 1:58 pm #371310salliMember

Oh Chester glad all is ok now poor puppy and poor CHester frightening time tick season:kiss::hug:
We give our boys a Sentinel Tablet monthly it covers Fleas. Heartworm, intestinal worm and the dreaded evil tick.
Kodi thinks it is a treat and eats it all up.
He is the type of dog who loves you but will take your hand off if you try and give him pills or try to open his mouth. SO they are great.September 28, 2008 at 10:49 am #371312chesterMember
