so sorry  life is full of losses but its thru them we grow and from this ( hoping you get more chooks) you will be able to build a (hopefully) safer ( fox proof )enclosure.
Thank you all for your best wishes. We are still walking around in a daze, can’t believe we let it happen. We had been trying to get Barnevelders for a couple of years and thought we finally had it sorted. They seem to be incredibly hard to come by.
You poor things. Thinking of you both
Sorry to hear. I haven’t been able to log in for a while and only just read. I know how hard it is to get Barnies as well, not to mention the actual loss. My sympathies to you
 KD am so sorry for your loss.
How devastating for you – I do hope you work out what happened and can bear to bring yourselves to get some more once you have worked out what happened and taken measures to prevent a repetition. I really feel for you …
I’m sorry to hear this – I heard the girls going at 4am one morning when I was heavily pregnant and pushed my husband, he grunted and went back to sleep. Sure enough, we’d lost our 2 best layers 🙁
It takes a while to get over emotionally, but then you get really determined and rethink design so much better for the next ones. We now have my cats living in the top part of the chook shed which seems to work!
Good luck, and all the best for finding Barnies in your area, I researched the breed after reading this post and would be interested in getting some myself!
