So great to see so many people put their hand up for a no spend month to start 2012 off.
What are people thinking?
I am going to keep a list of everything I think I want, then February I will re-evaluate.
Also any one that can’t do January we can always start another in February 🙂December 18, 2011 at 8:25 pm #516339bluezbanditMember
I will be keeping a blog on my progress during 2011 as I attempt a “no spend” year. Anyone who wants to check in on it can here :December 18, 2011 at 10:12 pm #516340ballamaraKeymaster
oh… I don’t know if I could go a whole year with a capichino (I have no idea on the spelling and spell check doesn’t seem to either).December 19, 2011 at 7:04 pm #516341AuroraOzMember
I’m interested in doing this but it will have to be February for me as i’ll be on a holiday in January (my last extravagance which i paid for before being retrenched at the start of December) It will be more of a need to not spend than a not wanting to spend at that point, but it would be helpful and motivating if there were others doing the same thing at the same time 🙂
wow bluezbandit that’s an awesome goal to have, will be interested to see how things work for youDecember 19, 2011 at 7:39 pm #516342IdunaMember
I’m out for January I’m going to have school fees to pay for and all that school stuff. February is going to be a better month for me.December 23, 2011 at 9:44 pm #516343luvinMember
we’re at the end of no spend from july to late dec,it has been interesting
we saved quite a bit to get out of debt completely,
bartered for different items
if we can do it,anyone can
our dd is getting married in march ’12 and it has been interesting,we have managed to do a lot of barter for wedding items
but i will say one thing, when we started off we bought optus prepaid to last 6 months and we still have heaps left though now we need to use it before we lose our remaining credit
give it a go if not in jan,try for a month thru the yearDecember 27, 2011 at 10:04 pm #516344maestroandmeMember
lol this challenge has already made me stop and think  With all the boxing day sales….. I’ve managed to say no and actually got me riding the scooter to work aswell.December 27, 2011 at 11:04 pm #516345bluezbanditMember
Congratulations on NOT being sucked into the Boxing Day sales. If stores can cut the prices by oodles and still they would be making a profit, it just goes to prove to me how much they rip us off at regular times.

wow you must have been reading my mind over the last few weeks. I am not planning to not spend at all but just to a slow year where we only spend on things that we absolutely need. I will be paying for school uniforms and swimming lessons and such. My plan is to grow all of our own veges, make better use of my LETS group and cut out any excesses in order to save money so that we can get out of debt and finish building our dream.
My Inspiration is this Riana Carpenter. She lives so well and spends so little.
I love a challenge and reckon that if other people can do it, why can’t I?December 28, 2011 at 11:40 am #516347BronMember
I”m actually not going to do too bad on this challenge. I’ve been buying bits and pieces for school this month and will get most of the remainder today 🙂 I won’t be completely no spend though, there are a few things (lunchboxes, pants, shirts) I will need to get next month.December 28, 2011 at 11:47 am #516348
Just by starting thinking about this challenge I have become more aware of where I am spending my money… I am going to try be no spend, but I know I have a b’day present I have to buy, although given he is 1 I might think about if there is anything I could make instead or buy second hand. Any ideas? I normally only spend $5-10 on presents for the young children anyway.December 28, 2011 at 11:58 am #516349luvinMember
