No, not a pest, good compost material, chook food, green manure….
Yep paddy melon, pretty sure nothing eats them, I pull them out as soon as I see them.

Definitely paddy melon. You’d want to compost them well so that they don’t spread seeds all through your garden – they are the bane of farmers in the Riverland!
Alrighty then! Won’t be encouraging that one to grow…. nor will I be making jam out of it…. will dig it out ASAP and bury it in the compost.

When I first came to Australia as a kid in the late 60’s I was so excited to see these growing on the vacant land next door….my old neighbour called them “pig melons”….pretty sure she used them for jam, which didn’t taste too bad. Haven’t seen any in Perth for decades…
