We’re just North of there… and safe… the wind is so horrific at the moment… I’ve never seen it blow like this…. the fire is still out of control. The wind died down last night, but has picked up this morning in a big way.
So far 1800 hectares have been burnt out… and at least 20 homes gone.
They’ve set up an evacuation centre in Margs and the community is rallying…
My heart goes out to all the people affected… and to the whole community. 🙁 :hug:November 23, 2011 at 5:31 pm #514829

I truly hope no life is lost like those fires in Victoria.
One question though; what brainless half wit thought that a burn off was a good idea given the weather forecast for that area. I’m no expert but it seems to me that a forecast of mid to high 30’s hot, dry north easterly winds and a trough off the coast is probably a good indication that it’s not a good idea to start a fire.November 23, 2011 at 10:59 pm #514834

Just all looked like grey ash in the pics I saw in the news. I hope I’m wrong though.

The authorities are saying that the burnoff fire was lit weeks ago but that the adverse weather recently caused it to jump the containment lines.November 24, 2011 at 2:35 am #514840
Yeah it’s amazing… listening to the local updates yesterday and today, they start off saying the fire was a result of controlled burns from DEC 3 days ago….
And mid this afternoon… they started saying it the cause of fire was from controlled burns in the ‘area’ performed by DEC over the LAST 10 WEEKS… they’re already covering their arses!
One thing that was promising, was hearing how all the agencies DEC, FESA, and Dept for Community Development, as well as the shire of Augusta Margaret River have all worked really well together… trying to get it all sorted.
The weather is meant to be changing tomorrow and they’re hopeful of bringing fires under control tomorrow…
My heart goes out to friends and family and indeed everyone all over the state affected by these awful fires.
Denmark is worry now
