March 13, 2008 at 1:27 am #329618I did it!! I went the whole day without going online! YAY ME!
And most surprising was I didn’t even miss it and I got more done even though I had my grandson to run around after all day.
I did put the TV on for about 30 mins after lunch so GS could have a dance to the music(he is so cute) but switched it off when he went for his nap.
I also used the vacuum which I don’t normally do on a Wednesday. Tuesday is usually vac day but after my traumatic time at the vet I couldn’t get my head around doing the vaccing.
Overall I did pretty well.
I have been on here far too long today already but I have been listing things on ebay which always takes me ages. Hopefully I will get faster at doing it and won’t waste so much time.
Did anyone else do the low tech challenge??
March 13, 2008 at 2:51 am #329619You beat me to it! I was just coming on to bump this up and update 🙂
Glad to hear you had a successful day! Me too, had a good day. Had to turn on the computer once because I needed to check a pdf about listeria (verdict: once you open a can of salmon, you have to eat it within a day 🙁 ) So my salmon sandwich went to the cats, very disappointing! Which meant I had to heat up leftovers in the microwave. I thought about using the stove but then figured I would probably use more energy that way… and I was getting REALLY hungry by then! 😆
What I find, is my low tech day in the middle of the week spills over into the rest of the week. So I find myself going online less, turning on the TV less, being more active, and really thinking about how I can slow down a bit and keep things simple. That’s got to be good, right?!
March 13, 2008 at 4:00 am #329620I missed this until now. I SO NEED TO DO THIS!!
I will be joining low tech Wednesday next week. Thanks everyone

March 13, 2008 at 5:12 am #329622I have been thinking about his alot because I waste an embarrasssing amount of time online and have decided to add low tech weekends.
I am going to keep my online visits to Mon, Wed(arvo only) and Fri.
I get my work roster via email on Wednesaday arvo so I really need to check it out then in case I need to swap a shift.
I will organise all my ebay auctions to end on a Wednesday so I can finalise them by Friday.
I already try to stay off the pc on the weekend but if I make it a rule then I am more likely to stay away.
I know I will get much more done if I do this and even though I will miss visiting here so often it’s just something I have to do.
Not to mention that I just got a bill for $96 in excess downloads.:p
March 13, 2008 at 5:40 am #329623Ouch, Michelle that’s enough incentive to cut back isn’t it? 😐
March 14, 2008 at 2:43 am #329624I’m in on this one. We already have a no screen day on Friday’s at our house, well after the kids get home from school really, but don’t tell them that;) But Wed would be great for me to stay off here and to think of other ways to reduce my energy usage. We don’t do day time tv that so one is easy.

thanks Dan!
March 20, 2008 at 12:23 am #329626We did this yesterday, and it was great! Appart from a few tantrums from the 3yo when I said no to TV and computer, she did really well. We did give in and use the car to go to the library, as it was story day, and this gave us lots of new books to read instead of watching the box. Cooked dinner on the BBQ, yum. Only thing is, DH and I got talking after DD was in bed, and didn’t get the early night we had planned!
March 20, 2008 at 1:25 am #329627Well, I seem to be making up it today by being online for far too long already! 😆 But we had a good day too. Even got the kitchen floor mopped, and it is a different colour now :jawdrop:
Just kidding, but it does look HEAPS better.
Unfortunately it seemed to get really warm late afternoon, so ended up having to have the aircon on for about half an hour, but apart from that it was a good slow day 🙂
March 20, 2008 at 5:08 am #329628well, this is a fairly brilliant idea.
whenever my pc is broken, it is so liberating.
if i consolidate all the time i spend faffing and surfing online, i could actually achieve something – maybe even a whole thing. imagine. :metal:
March 27, 2008 at 1:47 am #329629Does anyone else find that the day after low tech Wednesday is not good? I have such a great time without the comptuer/TV, then the next day, I spend far too long on them, and feel stressed about it. how to find a balance?
March 28, 2008 at 12:33 am #329630I think it will balance out. I do find I have a lot of “catching up” 😆 to do on the Thursday, because I want to find out what I missed! But for the rest of the week I’ve found it seems to be better overall.
Maybe you could set yourself a few times during the day where you allow 20 minutes or half an hour to do internet stuff, or watch a programme, and then go back to what you need to do after that? You could even do the flylady thing of setting an egg timer. I sometimes catch naps that way, 20 minutes so I can have quiet time while S sleeps and then still get stuff done before he wakes up. I set the alarm on my mobile phone.
March 28, 2008 at 2:58 am #329631I haven’t done a low-tech wednesday, but for about 3 months a year we have a TV boycot, although I will generally sneak in an episiode of river cottage or the good life that I have on DVD 😆
It is amazing how much time you have on your hands to do other things without TV to watch 🙂
