One of the chooks seemed a bit “out of it” yesterday, and she roosted on the lower of the two perches last night. I made sure the coop was warm and that the water was fresh last night when I locked up, but alas, I found her on the floor with her head tucked under her wing this morning. She must have died sometime during the night. The only good thing is knowing she had (although quite short) a pleasant life free ranging.
Anyway, could I have some advice please. The remaining flock of three seem fine and laying two eggs a day. I cleaned out the coop and replaced straw. Is there anything else I should do??
Saddened by the loss,
So sorry to hear about your chookie. 🙁 I think that’s about all you can do Russell but someone here (with more experience) will tell you if there is anything else you should do.
Russell I’m so sorry to hear that. Have you been giving them crushed garlic? It seems to help anytime my chooks seem a bit off. I put it in with their mash weekly in the morning. Alternatively if one is a bit off I put a clove straight down their throats. A few nice warming tidbits seems to help. Bit of chopped chillies type thing now and again etc. I’m not an expert but that’s what I’d do as a precaution with the others. Hope that works for you. Bless
Im so sorry to hear abbout your chook:( I think that youve done all you can, the garlic may be a good idea just to pick them up a bit:shrug:
Thanks guys. I will up the garlic dosage for the remaining three girls.
Poor little one. Hopefully she just slipped away in her sleep. Good luck with the others, hopefully it was an isolated incident.
