If theres no room for chooks maybe bantams or quails may work.

I have worm envy…It drys out for so long here normal worms dont have a chance….we have worms the size of small snakes that you see poke their heads up when it starts raining though

Roughley what area are you in everything seems so lush
We are in the northern suburbs of Perth Western Australia. It is winter here, which is when it rains, but we have a very long hot dry season. The soil is sandy and pretty gutless. We have mulched for 20 years to build up the soil and have drip irrigation on mains, so there is nothing to spare in the water department.
