Kristy, its really good to see your garden coming along! Feel free to come up and grab some seeds or plants or wire or just ask about anything you want help with. Hope you got those trees cheaply, remember I can get anything at wholesale price if you are doing a big spend, you could come with me and pick out the best from the wholesalers if you like!
Loads of people have helped me get my garden as good as it is, I feel an obligation to help others get theirs going too.August 9, 2011 at 2:17 pm #498540
Thanks Greth and no I forgot you can get trees at wholesale prices. I got them for $22.95, which was the cheapest I found. Not sure how that compares to the trees you can get.
Thanks for the offer to help Greth, I will let you know 🙂August 20, 2011 at 11:07 pm #498541
I finally cut a hole in the coop, so that Lucy and Hilda can now use their run during the day, whilst I’m at work. It’s a rough looking hole, but it works. I used gaffer tape to cover the sharp edges.
I bought a tarp to cover the run, to provide shade from the hot sun, until I plant the passionfruit vines.
It’s so exciting to see all the sticks come to life, this is a raspberry cane
This is my first bud to open and it’s on the cherry tree
The prune tree is also coming alive, the rest are still sleeping
Looking much tidier since mowing and weeding.
Weeded and I have sown Good Bug Mix, which is a combination of plants, that should ensure there are flowers all year round, plus encourage lots of good insects
Same garden with Good Bug Mix sown, plus in the front is a heap of grape vines I chopped into small pieces. It is an experiment to see if they grow roots.
Compost bin is well and truly full! Apologies for blurry picture, bad light and didn’t notice until I uploaded photos.
Starting 2nd compost heap (these all all the weeds from just the backyard)August 20, 2011 at 11:15 pm #498542froot_loopzMember
your girls will be much happier with more room to play in during the day

Making great progress Kirsty! My raspberries aren’t budding yet, but the boysenberries are. Your yard is so tidy and the chooks look happy :cheer:August 21, 2011 at 2:32 pm #498545AuroraOzMember

It’s all looking wonderful Kristy! well done!August 21, 2011 at 3:05 pm #498547
Thanks everyone, I’m so enjoying the transformation and can’t wait to see everything coming alive in the coming days and weeks. I have to remember to keep watching my fruit trees…
Oh forgot to mention my very painful weeding experience… I was down to the last corner and I was wearing gloves this time, and took a handful of weeds only to have instant pain. Threw off the glove, muttered a few words and went inside to put ice on it, which stopped the pain almost instantly. Afterwards I couldn’t even see a bump for all that pain, but today I have a small lump. When I went back to the garden, with a pair of thicker gloves, I did see quite a large ant, so not sure if it was that or not, but ouch!August 24, 2011 at 12:33 am #498548Bandicoot ValleyMember
Hi Kristy, Do you have hopper ants at your place? They are about a cm long with orange mandibles. We have a lot of them here & they HURT! Is the bite/sting site itchy now?August 24, 2011 at 12:42 am #498549
Very, very itchy it was BV. Scratched and scratched lol and swelled, but feeling much better now. There was an ant that was 1 or 2 cms long looked huge lolSeptember 11, 2011 at 12:48 am #498550
Don’t think we need many words here, but all this rubbish is from the previous owners, from the moonscape, that is now my fruit orchard and chook run. I wanted it cleaned up before the snakes start to visit…
Very grateful to my brother and his wife for coming around and giving me a hand. I couldn’t do it on my own. He cut up floor boards and pipes that would not have fitted.
Today I went around pulling out 3 cornered jack plants and caltrop, which seem to have sprung up in the last couple of weeks. Need to try and keep on top of them… Neddie (dog) doesn’t like them in his paws and I don’t like them in my feet or hands!September 11, 2011 at 2:48 am #498551BlueWrenMember
