From what I have read so far, it seems that many people are preparing for some event that will change society and will have short term implications, and it may. But what if this change is permenent? What if there is no government to host surviver camps? What if the food supplies are never able to be replaced?
I know this is extreme, but what if… and for this I AM NOT PREPARED.
See told you all I was a paranoid nutter!
Thats a very interesting thought if food was never able to be replaced. If this ever happened it would meen the world is reverting back to a farming type community and maybe hunters. But I could not see that everything would revert back.
But it would mean that everyone would be growing a lot more of there own food. If not they may go hungry or they might help themselves to others.August 18, 2010 at 1:43 pm #469971
A little over two months ago I started this thread. In that time we have created 34 pages of text, 660 individual posts, and clocked up an astounding 13,575 hits.
If you ever thought you were alone in your thoughts, paranoid, or even a little crazy, then you certainly aren’t alone.
Take heart in the fact that there are others out there thinking the same as you. You aren’t crazy after all.
Take confidence in that knowledge and use it as encouragement to continue your mental and physical preparations.
Take a moment to think about the future.

Yes RW, I was watching those numbers grow and thought this is quite interesting. I have found people from all walks of life are concerned about what is most likely to come upon us very soon. Some for different reasons like CC, PO, Christians, other religions etc. Some have slightly different slants to what may happen but one thing has stood out in all the people I talk to. They have no trust in governments and believe that governments and world powers are behind whats coming.
I have found that there are about a 50/50 view on whether we should be prepared to head for the hills or stay. The ones that have opted to head for the hills have said they believe there will be draconian style gov setup under the UN ideas. That there is no way they could live under such a government and would prefer to live in the bush than under a dictator ship. While others think they will be able to maintain some sort of lifestyle in there homes etc.
Which ever way it goes it could be a bit dangerous at some stages and what ever the choice the person makes will reflect on there well being. Myself I believe I want to be prepared for any scenaro and will do what ever to survive. Was talking to another family last night about it all and they believe we should be prepared just in case.August 19, 2010 at 3:12 am #469973BootstrapperMember
Big grubbyment and big business (Govcorp) are part of the problem, not the solution. :awch: In a rescource-poor environment they’re not “too big to fail”, they’re too big to survive. That won’t stop them from trying and in doing so, they’ll eat up a lot of the rescources that could be put to better use, building the infrastructure that a Post-Peak society will need to prosper. The only effective, sustainable responses to the effects of Peak will come from the bottom, up.
That’s what exercises my intellect; How to avoid getting eaten or trampled by the starving T-Rex (and the smaller predators it sponsors) before it becomes too weak to be a threat. :rip:August 19, 2010 at 3:42 am #469974

Oh, except crap, we ruined all the soil, and we destroyed the habitat of what we were going to hunt… that sucks! 🙁 That is why I believe in not only being prepared, but still trying to make differences now… like supporting farmers who use biodynamic farming techniques!
Oh, and I was meaning to reply to you, MileyMoon… Don’t Panic! The best way to handle it, is to not get overwhelmed and think about all the horrible things that could happen (been there!) BUT to start by doing one thing to be more prepared, to build your resilience. Each thing to do, is one more thing to be able to handle a situation better… don’t try to reach for self sufficiency or to be prepared for every single worst case scenario (like RW probably is!! 😀 ) Just see each thing you do as a step in the right direction… I think we’ve covered this before, but take a few basic steps… buy some canned food, get some emergency gear, grow some basic vege’s… just start! 😀August 19, 2010 at 4:46 am #469975

You been looking in RW head again? Don’t you know thats off limits. Your right with the basic steps and its the only way. Just add a bit as you go along and learn a few basic skills. Every little bit helps.August 19, 2010 at 6:43 am #469976

That would be an interesting, and no doubt very educational, place!! 😆 Esp. with lines like this:
…BUT what if there is more than one bear!!??!!
If there’s more than one bear then it’s time to lock-n-load. Yeeha! 😡
This is an entertaining thread, to say the least!! 😀August 19, 2010 at 6:43 am #469977
(Double post… just talk amongst yourselves. Why do they not have the emoticon smiley with the balaclava?? (: ) )August 19, 2010 at 1:35 pm #469978
RW. You setup a scenaro dealing with PO, But what about the state this country may end up in because of the political parties and incompetence to run this country. I put it to you that we may see a scenaro where a lot of people are not going to be able to live and property and food may become a big issue.
It may end up being more dangerous and real that a war type issue but a lot more sutle in its beginnings. Maybe all the scenaro training will be a big benifit in surviving whats coming.August 19, 2010 at 11:05 pm #469979
The US has begun pulling combat forces out of Iraq, with all forces scheduled to be out of the country by Christmas.
This seems premature as noted by head Iraq Army officials. Local forces won’t be ready to hold on to the country for another decade.
It has been said before; US forces will leave Iraq before the bombing of Iran by Israel begins.
Have stocked up on another 25kg of wheat and 50kg of chicken feed yesterday.

It comes back to the old story. Be ever watchfull but carry on with everyday life. Like the TV add “Are we there yet ” can be changed to ” Are we ready yet ” Check and recheck.August 20, 2010 at 5:53 am #469981
They could be leaving simply because the US hasn’t got what they came for; that is, unrestricted access to Iraqi oil fields.
Plus the fact that the war is sending them broke and they are just about insolvent (they just don’t know it yet). Listening to the news today was saying US is heading into a double-dip resession. No, really? Couldn’t have predicted that in a million years.
As you said Dennis, “Be ever watchful but carry on with everyday life”. Wise words.August 20, 2010 at 8:42 am #469982GgangMember
the US is only withdrawing “combat” troops – its all a bit of a con but there will still be plenty of US troops left there to control that oil ……………..
