I have been lurking here for a few weeks and thought it was time I said hi!
I live near Mt Buller and my husband and I have got 2 acres of land. It’s not much, maybe not enough to be self sufficient, but we would like to try. I’d love to have a horse one day but not sure if I have enough land for that? In the meantime, i would like to get a few chickens and have a big vegie patch and some fruit and nut trees.
My hobbies are knitting and french polishing as well as gardening.
I found this site while looking for information about home schooling. I see you have had lots of debates about it so I am sure I will learn alot.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!November 13, 2009 at 11:18 am #443215

Hi Alpine and welcome to ALS.
Never been to Mt Buller; but we’re not too far away. We’re at the base of Mt Buffalo in the Ovens Valley. No doubt we have similar gardening challenges.
Unusual hobby, French polishing. Got some photos of any pieces you’ve done? We love photos round here.

Hi Alpine. With two acres you can either be self-sufficient, or you can have a horse … If you can get a system of trading your surplus productivity you may be able to have both (eggs for agistment, sort of thing).November 14, 2009 at 12:31 am #443224
Thanks everyone! After reading through a few of the forums I see there is so much here that I can learn.
Lady B, I don’t have any pics yet, I am really just learning. I’m not very good at getting photo’s onto the computer anyway. Computers are still new to me. My parents are what some would call hippies so I didn’t even have a TV until I moved away from them.
Hillbilly girl, thats a great idea! We don’t know our neighbours very well yet but they seem like a nice bunch.
Thankyou all for the warm welcome!November 14, 2009 at 7:10 am #443225
